Default My off at knockhill circuit

First trackday in 2 years and the first trackday on the S1000RR that has 1000miles on it, did 10laps and came in because the bike felt unsettled mid corner so i checked the tyre pressures and the rear was at 50psi!! i knocked both front and rear down to 40psi. went back out and did a few laps then started to build up the pace.
Bike felt a bit better but a few times the rear was squirming under power when i was going down the long left hander and then into the hairpin it felt like the tarmac was very rough as I was getting a judder through the handle bars when cranked right over, after a few more laps this happened.

That rough feeling was obviously the front tyre on the edge of its grip limit and that time i went beyond that.

Tyres i had on were Conti Attack Sport, they were too new not to use them but that was obviously a mistake. I was very tempted to buy a set of Dunlops Qualifer RR's during the week for it.

Glad to see you're ok, 40psi was too much pressures. On street tires I'd suggest to bring'em down to 30psi front +or- 3psi and 28psi rear +or-rear 3psi. How much damage did you end-up with?

I agree 40 PSI is was too much. Additionally the s1000 needs adjustments of the front end and rear end suspension

What he said about tire pressure. I'd try 32/32 hot for the track and see how that feels. Did you chop the throttle? Smooth roll on is the key. Where are you riding? I ask because the lights are not taped, the mirrors are not taped, etc. Most track organizations in the US won't let you out on the track like that.

It's at Knockhill in Scotland.

Nope, I was neutral with the throttle. not accelerating or decelerating.
It was all down to wrong tyre pressures and crap tyres. They were set up for road use which is 36psi and that's what I've always used on track with previous bikes and never had an issue.

I'll wait till next year to do my next trackday, plan on using Michelin Power One's and getting the suspension tweaked by a MotoGP Ohlins suspension technician.

what others said about pressures along with what you said about crap tires...those things are horrible, i found them squeamish on the track with a brand new bike that still had the rev limiter in tact.

hope there's not too much damage

After watching this, Dave Moss Unsprung: Tire Wear | OnTheThrottle.com, I pay a lot more attention tire pressure and my tire wear. At a track day on a new pair of K3's I used 33 front and rear and had a slight cold tear. That pressure was too high for those tires and my riding.

Have you been at 30-32 psi instead of 40 I doubt you would have gone down the way you did. The Conti Attack Sport are not the best but others have done very well on them. BTW post a pic of your front and rear tires and let's see.
