Default My Track Bike...

A couple of cool pics from yesterday... weather was nice, too bad the tire was shot from cold-tearing in the morning.

I made it a point of working with the other S1000RR riders who were there. Good bunch - some of them were more used to the bike than I am; took some effort to chase them down.

I can confirm the Alpha fast throttle is not enough for me. On a bunch of occasions, I found that I wasn't wide open when I wanted to be - riding for years with the shortest throw throttles I've been able to get (usually Euro Racing with the big cam) spoiled me.

Great pics Ryan!

What caused your cold tear? Were you not on the warmers long enough, pace in the morning wasn't good enough to keep the tires hot enough, or just overall low ambient temps.?

Just curious...

Hi Ryan,

Great pics! I see you have the fgrt forks. I've just installed the same ...
Question ... what have you set up for the rear shock? Did you install the ttx shocks? If so, did you flip your spacer with these?
I know the ttx can has a few mm of adjustment, but you can't raise or lower the front of the Ohlin fgrt's as much as the OEM forks, and the ttx shock height adjustment can't raise the rear as much as a flipped spacer. Just trying to work out the best starting point ... Cheers!

I'm running a TTX rear. We flipped the eccentric spacer before starter, then raised the rear by 4mm on Sunday AM (based on the front tire wear) and the bike felt much better. Forks are about 4mm out of the triples. Feel is good all around - just fought tire wear with the dunlop slicks (soft compound) all weekend. Went through 2 rears (and that was with flipping them) in 3 days...

I was out as a Control Rider (coach, instructor, etc) when the pics were taken. We wear the orange shirts so the riders out there can identify us as CRs...

Low ambient temps - was in the 40s when we first went out. Even as the temps rose the first 2 days to the mid 50s, the sun was sporadic and the wind was cooling the track down. It was really hard to keep heat in the tires.

On Sunday, I started on a new tire but shagged one side in 2 sessions. Flipped it at lunch, tearing started immediately. By the time it was sunny and 70s in the middle of the afternoon, the tire was beat. You can actually see the band of the tears in the first picture.

I baked them pretty well, and even went down as far as 22psi hot. The track has a LONG sweeping right hander with camber that exits onto the front straight. I enter it in 4th gear and accelerate through it - the turn just eats tires in this weather.
