Race S1000RR
Had a great year on the S1000RR !
Stock motor, Akropovic, Ohlins TTX and cartridges, Brembo master, Armour bodies, Ferodo pads, Woodcraft rearsets, Michelin tires (always !), VP MR12 fuel.
Won the Masters Pro Open Superbike Series for RACE here in Ontario Canada .... a great year !
For next year ... Atacks triples, lighten it up a little, more gearing options....
...any other ideas ??
Steve

No weight full of fuel, but post race with approx a gallon of fuel 403-405 lbs. Still had ABS in then. Approx 20 lbs too heavy.

Battery.... check
rear sub.... just going to order from yoyodyne... anyone else make one ?
chain, sprockets ... done
wheels .... I had a bad experience years ago with lightweight wheels... dont hold up too well in a crash.... so I may wait on those for now
MR12 made 9 extra horsepower !! (MR9 made 6)

Nice, sounds like you're having lots of fun with the bike. I'd like to have the bike be lighter also, but I too have seen carbon wheels become garbage in a crash. In fact, on sunday at Thunderhill an S1000rr came in on the crash truck from a not to hairy looking crash- the carbon fiber body work was in much better shape than the rear wheel, which was totally destroyed.

Yea... carbon wheels tend to come back to the bits in little bits.
BMWs arent known to crash well, in my experience. Wrote off a Boxer Cup R1100S yrs ago, and small lowside on an HP2 Sport cost waaaaaaay more to fix than it should have !
Had a front tire failure last week on the superbike that locked up the front, and it went end-over-end on the straight. Ripped off the exhaust, stretched the swingarm pivot (!) and destroyed the rear subframe (never did find the battery !), but the rest held up well !
The bike sure is fun, though !!

Jeez- that sounds nasty. Sounds like you are OK though, amazingly. What happened with the front tire? Sure it wasn't the brake-pad issue?

Not the pads... use the Ferodo Carbon Pads... backing plates are thick enough, were brand new and were still there, in place, afterwards.
The tire tore along the bead and up to the surface ..... must have picked up a piece of safety wire or something. Checked pressures two sessions previous, but since it was just a track day I wasnt too vigilent (there's a lesson in there boys !) Ran a little wide at the apex at the previous turn, thought it was weird but didn't pay any attention. Came onto the straight, up throuh two gears and as soon as the front touched down it felt vague, so I pulled in the clutch as started to apply brake. It then locked up when the tire came off the rim and skidded about 300 feet (quite a darkie !) before I fell. ( In the middle of the straight !)
I will post a pic of the tire later tonight. ANd of my thumb .
