Default Picture of the mirror mounts?

I've always hated mirrors on bikes. They look like bug antennae. So I remove them and go with a bar end mirror. So I'm wondering how the front fairing/windscreen/fairing stay are designed on this bike because the fairing & fairing stay are usually connected at the mirror mount. Does anyone have a picture without the mirrors on, or schematic drawing, or something of the sort? I haven't come up with anything yet.

I wish my bike would get here already.

I thought I read in the owner's manual that you cold take them off, and then replace the bolts so that the fairing reattaches (kind of like you mentioned). There's a fella on here (Mrgrn)... He could probably even make you a small set of Carbon Fiber plates to help out.

I thought R&G or someone already had mirror blockoff plates available.

I'm pretty much trying to find out if I need plates or not. I usually think they're a bit of an eyesore too, unless they're color matched to the bike. Otherwise a little bit of small hardware usually hides better. Since I'm going the bright green route, things are going to stand out more than on the more neutral silver and charcoal bikes.

You might check out the owner's manual... I'm thinking you just throw the bolts back in and call it good.

From the manual:

Quote:
Removing mirror

Make sure the ground is level and firm and place the motor-cycle on its stand.

On each side, remove nuts 1 and remove the mirrors.

Secure fairing 2 to fairing bracket 3 on left and right. If cable ties are used, affix adhesive tape as protection at the points where chafing might occur.
So it seems like you need to either use tie wraps (like a Ducati 748/998 series) for a temporary fit, or block-off plates for something more elegant/permanent.

That's looks familiar now that you posted it...

Another option is to just throw one bolt/washer/nut on each side....

I remember reading that and wishing BMW provided some pictures.

Just found this:

Bolts on one side, zipties on the other. But now that I see it is just two bolt holes per mirror and not a large slot the mirror mount locks into, then removing the mirrors and reusing the hardware seems the way to go.

Makes my day a little brighter.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

I'm going to use mirror blockoff plates. I've had problems with zip ties scuffing up the paint on my 748, and I would be afraid of cracking just putting the screw/washer in there instead of the full baseplate of the mirror.

Maybe I'll change my mind after seeing it in person, but I doubt it.
