I too thought the same thing, I have the same color bike as well but in the sunlight you can see the gray more clear with the flakes in the paint. In the shade or dim light it looks more of a black.

Compared to the paint on the bodywork, the tank, wheels and swingarm on my 2010 look almost like a grey-brown color. The bodywork can appear black in photos, but in person, the dark grey metal flake really pops, especially in sunlight.
