Gathering information pertaining to camshaft, engine and transmissions issues.
Per the message topic, I'm gathering any and all information pertaining to BMW S1000RR engine, camshaft (valve-train) and/or transmission issues; including all failures and subsequent repairs and/or replacements.
I'm looking to compile as much detailed information as possible; including formal documentation, pictures (before/after), service orders, topic related correspondence and complaints; all personal information will be redacted, if present when submitted.
Why? To provide supportive documentation when requesting warranty repair services; as many have discovered when reporting issues pertaining to service requests, such as excessive engine noise, shifting faults, loss of power and repeated debris discovered during oil changes, to name a few, result in the immediate denial of ANY history of the aforementioned.
It is my goal to offer a comprehensive history of complaints and subsequent repairs specific to the S1000RR when requesting warranty service, thereby presenting absolute compelling support to any service writer that simply dismisses an owners concerns.
As an example, recently a local S1000RR owner had his/her S1000RR in for service at the nearest BMW dealer for nearly four (4) months, the complaints were specific to: transmission issues (5/6th kick-out w/rear wheel lock-up at freeway speeds), excessive engine noise, both at start-up and operating temperature and reported power loss. The engine noise was so loud, fellow group riders noticed the increase in volume (while riding). The result after four months? The local dealer stated BMW (USA) had not reported any of the issues with other S1000RR's in similar nature and it was returned to the owner covered in grime, debris and grease; sadly the same complaints remain with continued escalation w/engine noise and power loss.
In closing, I'm humbly requesting as much supportive information as possible; the combined results upon completion will be available for download to every S1000RR owner in standard reporting format.
Please send attachments, such as pictures, electronic documents and service orders scans to: vpreatr(at)gmail.com
(NOTE: Replace the (at) with the proper @, prior to sending the e-mail)
Any inquires or basic correspondence can of course be sent by way of private message (or) forum e-mail link; although given the potential volume, I would highly suggest using the aforesaid e-mail address, directly.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to inquire.
Thanks!

Great stuff, i for one hope you get a flow of information and documentation..
These bikes are great when well, but alas to many storries of unwell events, BMW by all accounts need a shake up or they will eventually loss credability in the sport bike market place..their choice.
I would prefer to see accounts of the issues on the public forum and not via p.m`s , we all bought one and we all need to know all the issues upfront, and it will serve to future buyers as a consideration of buying, which should make BMW wake up..good on you sir.

I just had my motor blow out on me two weeks ago. They told me it was a "thrust washer" that made it's way through the top end of the motor. The dealership has been good, but for whatever reason BMW is asking them to tear it down and give them an extensive list, including numbers, for all parts damaged and it looks like they are going to tell the dealership to repair rather than replace.
The bike only has 4300 miles on it and is 3 months owned by me (demo model 2010 had 1600 when bought). F**king pissing me off because I feel they should just replace the motor and get it over with...either that, or give me a new bike altogether.
Regretfully the dealership was told that the only numb er they have to provide me to talk about my complaints is the regular customer service line. My complaints seem to be going no where.
Anyone have the warranty/repairs line for BMW so I can bitch them out?

Thank you for the comment, alas, the primary issue with such methodology is fragmentation; a compilation of events, records, photographs and service orders into a single report is ideal by way of presenting an absolute and overwhelming record of events.

Compile all relating information, scan (redact personal information) and forward to the e-mail address listed in the first post.
Thanks!

The expedience of completion is solely based on the rate of contribution.

Does it have to only be "camshaft, engine and transmissions issues" only? I occasionally have starter switch issues where the bike does nothing when it's pressed unless I rock it to the "kill" position and back to start a couple times. It only happens maybe once a week or less so it's hard to show the dealer. When it does completely fail a record of it [maybe] being a common issue could help.

PM sent...
for those wondering, here is the list of damage thus far found from a shim finding it's way through my motor...
In the email I had sent to you yesterday I missed a couple major parts, so I am re-sending you that list with the added parts.
<<Here is the list of damaged components found in your engine:
Cylinder Head (combustion chamber damage #3 + #4 cylinder)
Engine Housing ( #4 cylinder gouged )
intake cam
intake cam followers
intake valve spring retainers
intake valve springs
#4 cylinder valve collets
#4 valve made contact with piston--top of stem is damaged from cam
#4 piston has visible gouges/marks on top of it
#3 valve shim was missing (have found it)
Oil pump is damaged
Right now we are waiting to hear from BMW on whether to repair or replace this engine. >>
And now BMW has to decide whether to repair or replace it?! I am going to hit them with the Lemon Law in CT that says if anything covered under warranty that would be detrimental to the resale value of the vehicle if repaired rather than replaced is found, it qualifies as a Lemon. Hmmmmm.....

Make sure you check if Lemon Law affects bikes because down here in the state of Florida it does not.
