It does. All motor driven vehicles.

On a very good note, I got a call from my dealer today. The BMW rep called back after reviewing the list of damage and seeing the pics they had sent in. They have authorized that the motor be replaced. I didn't even have to make my call to BMW.

So, to all those that ma encounter, or have encountered, similar problems, I guess BMW really will back their product.

From what my dealer was telling me, there had been similar problems found with early run 2010's. Guess where mine fell in the production run?

Dealer says BMW told them that they should be getting the motor shipped within the next couple days and the dealer will get it a few days after that. Sounds like the motor is already stateside rather than coming form Germany. After they get it, one work day to get it in and running is what I am told.

Now I am just going to fight them on having BMW pay for the break in maintenance that was already done and paid for with the original motor.

awelch85:
Any documentation supporting service and subsquent repair history is welcomed.

Kelial:
Thank you for the information; I'll respond with a detailed reply as soon as possible.

Don't forget to to send images, scanned service orders, repair/dealer documentation and/or ANY related information via e-mail to: vpreatr@gmail.com

The faster I have that information collected, the faster we can create an evidentiary report for S1000RR owners experiencing difficulty with BMW service writers and/or BMW warranty services.

Thanks!

Glad to hear you are getting a new motor. If a cylinder is gouged then the block has to be replaced, hence the new motor. Not worth rebuilding, to BMW anyways.

Default BMW S1000RR India Engine Failure

Chronology:
1. Purchased S1000rr in Germany 02/2011 to be sent to India. The first bike to be imported in a country of 1.2 billion people and a prime economy. India landing date 05/2011 (run in period + derestriction/1st oil change Germany dealer + transit by sea).
2. Subsequently, BMW Motorrad sets up operations in India. With exposure from my motorcycle ( and, of course, the stellar reputation and reviews... "subjective", so no debate), BMW India gathered additional local clientele for this model.
3. I register my vehicle locally.
4. All fine except the harsh clicking "sewing machine" sound that gets progressive over the course of 6 months.
5. With little feedback from 'new' riders and BMW India, the forum research points as "normal".
6. January 2012, California Superbike School has an track training in India in a formal certified course event with instructors.
7. Last day of the 3 day event, mid-track, the bike sounds like a twin and I stop to see a white smoking Akra Shorty (mine is the works- Quick Shift, Shorty Akra, Race ABS etc..)
8. So, now in sick bay at BMW Motorrad India. They (Germany and India) have identified that the warranty still holds ( ahem....or I would have taken them to the cleaners). They have offered to replace the engine and throttle body.

So, here are my queries that request a response:

1. Shouldn't I demand a new bike considering their reputation and the fact that the BMW Motorrad workshop in India is relatively new and not faced this issue before ( there are less than 20 S1000rr's in this massive country. Why?Because they retail for USD 50,000/Euro 45000/ GBP 40000. Crazy but true)
2. If I settle for the offer for a new engine, then shouldn't the warranty period be extended (incl. the de-restriction and 1st oil change etc.. costs) for another 2 years?
3. Anyone else with these issues, please em me at: rahul_prasad@hotmail.com

Appreciate.

Rahul

on mine when the engine went pop it had a little over a year of warranty left on the bike (in the USA we get 3 years 36k miles) when the dealer replaced my engine It (the engine)got a 2 year warranty (this is std from BMWNA on parts) so my engine is warrantied for longer then the rest of the bike now.

I have no complaints on how BMW covered my bike replacing the engine and as both a multiple BMW bike owner and a BMW car owner I am glad they tend to stand behind their products.

The bike only has 4300 miles on it and is 3 months owned by me (demo model 2010 had 1600 when bought). F**king pissing me off because I feel they should just replace the motor and get it over with...either that, or give me a new bike altogether.

Regretfully the dealership was told that the only numb er they have to provide me to talk about my complaints is the regular customer service line. My complaints seem to be going no where.

Anyone have the warranty/repairs line for BMW so I can bitch them out?
Mine has been in since before xmas now due to the clutch exploding. BMW asked my dealer to strip the engine down and send them a list of everything that needed replacing... all being done under warranty and just awaiting the parts now.

Addem: I'm still waiting for scanned images, invoices, work/service orders and related; sadly to date I've only received situational complaints, what we need is a compilation of documented service orders, BMW responses/repair authorizations and resulting outcomes.
