Insurance... want to play? You gotta pay!
Just got a preliminary quote from Geico for the S1000RR...
Well, like most of you are experiencing, it's quite steep. I insure 3 bikes today for the price it will cost me to insure the S.
Gonna have to play with the deductible a bit.
And Geico confirmed that they are covering track schools (as long as I am not racing).

My car and the BMW K1200GT costs me $1065/yr. in So. CA through the Auto Club of So. CA. To add the S to the others adds $600/yr. more (total $1665 for two bikes + 1 car). Bad thing is they require all the money in one lump sum annually. If I buy the S mid-year on the annual policy, I get charged half as much, but it goes full cost when the annual comes up. Progressive was around $2200/yr. for the two bikes alone (GT & S), but I've had a claim with them so I had to change. One guy at local shop pays $2800/yr. on his R-1, but he's younger too (a lot!). I think he told me his doesn't cover damages done at a track.
My bike towing and car also are through the Auto Club and runs $65 year additionally for that and the annual membership. I've had to use it on the bike a couple of times already.

You had me worried, so I just called my carrier (State Farm) and mine wasn't too bad. Full (and decent) coverages for $355 every 6 months. My '08 CBR1000RR was $306 every 6 months.
This coverage covers the bike anywhere... Track or street.

That's a sweet deal. Comprehensive/Collision too I suppose? What kind of coverage limit and deductible? I need to get a quote from StateFarm.

State Farm Prices are based on CCs and unlike other insurances they are full coverage year round.

That's fairly high coverage... like 250/500. They make me go w/the higher coverages due to having an Umbrella Policy too.
$100 deductible on comprehensive
$500 deductible on collision
Yes, there is no "layup" time... you can ride year round... they do the same w/boats... no layup period.
I've got a LOT of policies w/them and that probably gains some other discounts and such... and a good driving record and no "at fault" collisions in the last 10 years - except of course when I totalled my CBR

Just got a quote from AllState which was higher (slightly) than Geico. Progressive (on-line quote) was also higher. Sent mail to my local StateFarm agent.

Many times, it is this high because they don't want to JUST insure a motorcycle. What you might look at (not sure who you're with now) is moving ALL of your vehicles to State Farm or maybe Allstate... I'm partial to State Farm, so I'd certainly recommend them. So when you get a quote, you might look at moving everything over to them and see what the cost differential is. Not sure what age group you are in, but that will play a factor too as well as having multiple types of policies (home, rental, auto, boat, motorcycle, umbrellas, life, etc.)...
Good luck.

I have everything (cars/home/umbrella) with Geico and will offer StateFarm all my business if they can beat Geico (last time I checked they could not).
20+ years of driving/riding experience, married, no accidents/tickets, etc.
It should be fine anyway. I plan to decrease the coverage on my K1200R and increase deductibles (all at $200 right now) to limit the damage.

With all that in mind, I'm surprised that Geico is so high. Who knows... maybe State Farm can pull something together for you... Good luck
