HID Conversion
Hi - I have added a Pilot brand 5000 k HID for my low beam. It was easy to do, with the kit running off the +12 v low beam power. This brand does not have the smallest ballast, but the starter and the ballast are in one box. The Ballast is mounted on a heat shield in the frame spar area on the left side. I will be adding the other HID to the high beam tonight.
This was a big improvement over the stock 55W H7 bulb.

lighting is fairly high on my list. I will do the Z4 badge/turn signal conversion, gutted and replaced with Custom LED units. Custom LED is also working on a tail light, so I'll have ditched all four turn signal stalks, plus have a strobe function for monsoon weather. I plan to add heated grips come this autumn, but need a spare 40 watts in the electrical system to run them. Solution? 35 watt HIDs, in both main and high-beam. I lose flash ability, but I generally run the high beam on, sometimes off. Some LED parking lights will complement things, and I *just* thought of installing LED halos inside both lamp housings. At night, it'll give the headlights more of a feel of symmetry, although by now, like most people, i've grown to like the mismatched headlights. Anyways, switching to 35 watt HIDs not only give me the brightness and appearance of HID (Koreans automatically equate HID with expensive vehicle - one you wouldn't want to hit), it also saves 20 watts per side from the stock 55 watt bulbs. Which gives me the power to run heated grips
All that's left is to install rear running lights, where the turn signal stalks mount.
And...why use Galfer rotors? I have spoken with Braketech, and if you swap out the wheels to any non-BMW rim, their carbon ceramic disks will work. Those carbon rotors save more than a kilo of weight IIRC. I personally hope to shave off 20kg of weight from the bike (which would make the bike equal in weight to the Ducati 1198S Corse), and 15kg of that is in BST wheels, carbon rotors, and a full exhaust. And considering how much Ducati costs here, I'd STILL be saving money over an S-spec Ducati. A Braketech ductile iron rear rotor will go on as well.
I've been looking hard at the brake lines and have concluded that it's going to be a royal pain in the ass to replace all lines. Plus, whatever it is they have on there, that's pretty rigid stuff. So I think I'll simply do Brembo M4 monoblocs on my bike, and the RCS 19 cylinder, as soon as they come up with a clutch lever that fits the S1000RR, or a full cable clutch unit. Would be nice to upgrade to a 2-pot fixed rear caliper, but someone is going to have to make up a bracket to make it work.
