Kick (Side) Stand Recall

At my local dealer yesterday and read about a recall of all BMW S1000RR with production dates between Dec 2011 and Dec 2013 (sic) Pretty sure it's a typo and should read Dec 2012.

All sales halted, continued riding of delivered vehicles allowed. Caution advised.

Basically, the mounting point on the frame was "improperly" cleaned and the bolts can come adrift. In fact there are some instances reported on this forum, of loose kickstand bolts, but not in the context of a recall.

I did not receive a copy, but simply was allowed to read the notice so I apologize, in advance, for any errors, omissions or inaccuracies. The important thing is to be aware of the potential problem.

Mine fell over in the pits at chuckwalla after one bolt fell off, but I caught it so no damage. Been checking it regularly ever since.

cwcary is correct on this. There is a stop sale issued that just came out. My own dealer was worried that my delivery would be affected, but luckily wasn't.

Mine has come off twice already, both times i was extremely lucky as i stopped and put the stand down at the very moment one bolt came completey out and the other almost. It was pure luck i didn't drop the bike and had a mate there to help.

Has anyone got a good response from the dealer as to why the kickstand bolts are coming loose? I was looking through the service manual and it calls for loctite to be applied to the bolts. Is loctite not getting applied or low tinsle strength bolts being used?

How many miles has everyone had on there bike when they first noticed the side stand coming loose?

After reading this thread I parked my bike on the rear stand.

Now I am going to be paranoid. just checked the bolts on mine and all looks good. assembly looks like it is a bit on the flimsy side. will keep an eye on it.

Mine came off twice. So I had them safety wire it to fix it.
