2011 BMW S1000RR, 46,000 miles in exactly 2 years; I ride it to work every day, rain, wind, fog or whatever the San Francisco Bay Area's weather throws at me.

It has done 20+ track days and has been flawless except for breaking a pin off my detent plate at around 35,000 miles. Fixed under warranty and back to being flawless.

NOTE !!! The gearbox gets better and better as I put the miles on it. It is now, the best gearbox of any of the 30+ Motorcycles I have owned in my life; that wasn't so much true when it was new.

You should see some of the daily posts on the Aprilia or Ducati forums

I know Ducati are not very reliable or as they say have a character, but new Aprilia bikes are pretty good. At least I hope they are, cause I've been thinking about Tuono V4 as my next street bike. :-)

2011 with 9600mi and the only failure has been a rear flat. I'm 110% satisfied with the bike.

2011 with only a few minor problems. bolt fell out of tire hugger and 3 screws fell out of the bracket that holds the instrument cluster to bike. 7500 miles with no other problems.

Street and Backup track- 2012 KTM 1190 RC8R- White and Orange, Dominator exhaust, Bazzaz with TC and QS, Ohlins suspension, Sato Rearsets, GBR race covers

Track- 2011 BMW S1000RR with ABS, TC, and Race Assist. BST Wheels, Shorai Battery, Full Akrapovic Exhaust, Bazzaz, Full Ohlins suspension, Vortex Rearsets, BMC Race Filter, Pazzo Racing Levers, Yoshimura Case Protectors, Stomp tank Pads, Puig Windscreen, Frame Sliders and Fender eliminator

Actually I am in the exact same camp - I will be getting a Tuono V4 as my street bike, but I'm going into it knowing there will be more issues then the BMW and I will put up with the inevitable issues that will come around.

Case in point here's something I just picked off from the first five threads on the Aprilia forum:

Very disappointed in Aprilia quality -- coolant leak

We will also have to deal with the Italian August shutdown and parts shortages in general. I have no reservations in saying BMW in general is a much better ownership experience then Italian rivals.

That means you didn't own to many, cause when it comes to reliability nothing comes close to Japanese bikes. I've had/have a lot of them and they all just bulletproof.... My race/track bike will always be a jap bike. But you didn't get the S1000 for its reliability, you've got it for its character and exclusivity....
That said, my last jap street/track bike gsxr 750 had over 30K miles with no issues whatsoever. A lot of it was track miles. I checked the valve clearance at like 24K miles and everything was within the spec!
It's life ended at the track due to a high-side but the freaking thing was so good to me I've got the same bike and its now my track/race only bike!

I've been keeping an eye on that forum for a while now, and so far looks like the new Tuono is pretty reliable
If BMW build a naked with S1000 engine it would be no brainer to me.
Until then Tuono or Speed triple R will be my choice, as I'm getting older and don't want super sport on a street!
