Default ** Forum Members Feedback Needed. Time to Chime in. **

This post is to HELP all the Site Sponsors/Vendors with good feedback from You The Forum Members.

What Drives your Purchase Decisions ?

What's important to you when purchasing from a company ?

Please leave company names off your post.
We don't want it to turn into a " " Joe's Bike Shop is awesome " "Joe's Bike shop sucks "
This Thread is supposed to be helpful for ALL the SiteSponsors/Vendors.by letting us know more about the Forum Members. What influences you to purchase from a company. What's important to you. And what's not.

Here is a Quick List of Key Points that most people consider when making a Purchase.

1) PRICE
- Obviously with the current economy this is going to be first on everyone's List.
So Lets just assume, that everyone will put that 1st on their list.

That being said, Take a second and Post up.....in Order of Priority....... OF These Most Common Key Points (Other than #1 Price) , :Which ones come first on your list..

Which ones are important to you.? Top of your List

Which ones are not that important. ? Lower on your list.

We have put them in RANDOM ORDER. But, you can arrange them in whatever priority they are to you.
And of course post comments.

- Answers their phones when they are open ---- (Not saying every company can have a full sales staff and a bunch of dedicated Sales lines, so that you never get voicemail. That is Rare. But, Key point being, MOST of the time when you call, someone answers the phone. Nothing more annoying that Not being able to get someone to answer the phone, no matter what time of the day you call. )

- Replies to your emails in a timely manner ----- (Again, not saying every company can have a dedicated staff to do nothing but reply to emails 24/7. Key point being, MOST of the time when you email them during "NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS" you get a reply within an hour. Not 2 days later, or even worse no reply at all. )

- FREE Shipping ---- (Key Point : FREE SHIPPING)

- Knowledgeable Sales Staff ---- ( Key point : The person taking your order, knows the products, knows the bikes, knows what should fit, and what probably won't. Has 1st hand experience with the products your considering... We have all experienced what it's like to ask someone about a product, and they have no idea what it is, or what it does. All they do is sell it )

- A Real Store with a Physical Address and a phone number ---- ( Key Point :You know they are going to be there for the long haul. Not a "here today, gone tomorrow". There is nothing worse than seeing a PO BOX as the company's Physical address. Or no phone number listed, instead a.. "Email is Preferred method of contact ".

- Tracking numbers sent as soon as your product shipping ---- (Key point : They just email it to you automatically. That way you can track it, and you know when it will be arriving. You don't have to call or email and ask for it. Or worse your told. " You cannot get a tracking number until at least 14 days after your order..? WTF? )

- Repeat Customer Discount or Customer Loyalty Discount ---- (Key Point : In some form or another the company appreciates your continued business and gives you something extra for sticking with them. Either Store Credit, or Extra Discounts...etc.. )

- Order Status Updates ---- (Key point : As soon as you place your order, you are confident it will be processed quickly. Otherwise the company will email and/or call you immediately, to inform you of any delays and let you decide to continue or cancel or change order)

- Informative Website (Key point : Lots of information on the specific products, and Details Photos. Not just a "Here's the part, and here's the price. with a generic photo or no photo at all )

- Fast Shipping ---- (Everyone wants their stuff, Yesterday. Unfortunately, that's impossible. :-) But, you expect it to get to you quickly 2-5 days in most cases.. Not 2-3 weeks later. Unless your notified it's on back order.)

- Tech Support/Customer service that you can call and get Answers ---- (Key point : They don't just take orders. They can give you important information that helps you make an informed decision on what your buying. ie.. (will this fit my bike.? What do I need.?? Will this product work with That product. Are they compatible ? What size Sprockets do I need. How Fat of a Tire can I squeeze on my Rim )

AGAIN, please leave ALL company names off your post.

You're welcome to give past experiences you have had and how it has changed the way you make your decision. That's what we are looking for. Not a Bash fest on anyone or a HYPE Fest on anyone.

But I like Joe's Bike Shop

Top three things that sway my decision are the following (in no particular order):
  • Competitive pricing (total out the door w/shipping, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable staff that doesn't just try and sell me shitt... actually listens and then helps point me to the right decision
  • GREAT customer service - returning e-mails/calls promptly, doing everything in their power to help if a situation arises.

I think 1000RR hit the nail on the head.

1) Competitive pricing
2) Free shipping is nice
3) Sell me what I want, not what you want me to have.
4) Be accessible...whether that's by phone or by prompt email response.

I'm a pretty loyal guy, when I find a vendor that treats me great I will give them all of my business. Luckily, I have been fortunate enough to have found that on this site.

I agree with 1000RR, but would add one thing..... Having the doggone item IN STOCK! Everyone can list the item for sale, but I have been more than frustrated lately with how many vendors do not have Stock on Hand. ARrrgggh! Then you have to wait some 2 to 3 weeks, even months for some parts to come in. Simply not acceptable.

I'm the type of person that knows exactly what I want when I'm looking to buy something so the most important things I consider are the following in order

1) Price - I will buy from whom ever is cheapest
2) Shipping costs - This ties in with number 1
3) Customer service - The ability to respond to any questions in a timely manner

Discounts on future purchases are no good if someone else is already selling it cheaper. Vendors should try to be as competitive from the beginning.

EDIT: Have to agree with HP4 on the IN STOCK issue. I have had a few occasions where I've purchased an item only to be told its out of stock and will ship in 4 weeks time. They should tell you this before you buy the item.

.

We have to agree.

Pretty much every dealer wishes they had "LIVE INVENTORY" on their website. So the second they sell out of a product, the website is alerted and updated to show.. "NOT IN STOCK" and can also have the ability to update itself when the product comes back in stock.

Unfortunately, unless you have deep pockets like Walmart, it's not
an option.

That is understandable.
Real time, as in within 24 hrs I think would be acceptable.

How about doing some group buys.

Maybe monthly specialize in an item..
Give us a writeup on install.
Get us all pumped up about it, and then give us a special group buy price.

So this month is rear sets, next frame slider, next brembo brake masters for examples.

That is my .02 cents.

.

Back when the economy was good, and prices were normal, it was popular to do Group Buys. The Dealers had room to move a little better discount for select buyers.. ie (Forum members, Racers, Military...etc)

The reason you don't see a lot of Group buys on "Current" products these days.... is because of the Poor Economy.

Poor Economy means, not a lot of people spending money.

Everyone is worried their going to lose their job, or lose their house.

Which means, Vendor/Dealers are forced to drop their prices to the absolute rock bottom discount, for everyone (Not just these select groups listed above).... Just to get some sales.
That's why every 5 sec. you see a Ford, Chevy, Dodge Commercial for.. "$20,000 off, XYZ model. "

Your even seeing High Line Cars doing it now. (Lexus, MB, BMW)

Just about everyone has dropped their prices to their lowest point.

Any more, and you might as well throw some money out the front door.

I like the fact I can go to this forum and find stuff specific to my bike.
They have information about the product in their posts and in their sites.
They are very quick to respond to questions via PM or email or phone.
They are knowledgeable and provide good advice.
They are quick to ship and provide order status and tracking #.
They even follow up and are very appreciative of my business.
when something does not work out, they are there to try to work out a solution and do not leave you hanging.

Kudos to all.

My big concern is that they are actually riders, not here just for money but here to help and improve on the sport, and know what we are talking about as far as bike parts.

Also communication, nothing makes me more upset then ordering a item and getting no feedback as to what's going on.
