Default Differences in 4 Modes (2010/2011)

For the 2010 and 2011 years... 2012 has changed slightly on a few things.

As requested... here's a sticky of something I gleaned from somewhere a ways back.

D
-----------------------
BMW S1000RR with Race ABS and DTC

1. Power Mode: Rain: Power is cut to 150 bhp, reduced torque, and the
throttle response is more gentle.
* The braking force is applied to both front and rear wheels (partially
integral brakes)
* Rear wheel ABS operates even when only the rear foot brake is used
* The system detects if the rear wheel is lifting
* Wheelie protection operates
* Reduces rear wheel spin
* Increased traction and stability even when the frictional coefficient
spikes suddenly

2. Power Mode: Sport (which is the default setting): Full power (193 at the \
crank, approx 183 rwhp) with a fast but smooth throttle response.
* The braking force is applied to both front and rear wheels (partially
integral brakes)
* Rear wheel ABS operates even when only the rear foot brake is used
* The system detects if the rear wheel is lifting
* Wheelie protection operates
* DTC is slower to intervene than in Rain Mode, so slight drifts are
possible when exiting corners

3. Power Mode: Race: Full power but instant throttle response.
* The braking force is applied to both front and rear wheels (partially
integral brakes)
* Rear wheel ABS operates even when only the rear foot brake is used
* No rear wheel lift detection
* Wheelie protection operates
* DTC even slower to intervene so longer drifts and brief wheelies are
possible when exiting corners

4. Power Mode: Slick (coding plug required to be inserted): Full power with
an aggressive and instant throttle response.
* The braking force is applied to both front and rear wheels (partially
integral brakes)
* ABS does not operate when only foot brake is used
* No rear wheel lift detection
* Wheelies allowed up to a lean angle of 23 degrees and for up to 5
seconds

You can add that, in rain mode, 40% throttle opening maximum is permitted.

So far, the linked brake setup is annoying and the anti-wheelie setup is killing me when leaving corners in race mode.

U made a good choice not buying the ABS and DTC for a street bike.

Mode 5: turn it off

Have it all, No protection...... The only thing you can slip into and not get AIDS (electronic that is)

Mode: 6 turn it back on........ Best of both worlds

Isn't the level of power available for a given gear also dependent on which mode you are in (as per the Superbike magazine report May 2010)?

I think full power is only available in 5th and 6th in Sport mode, being limited in the lower gears, whereas Race has full power also in 4th? Something like that....

When you have enabled slick mode, does it come up on the dash so you can then flick through 4 options or is it just set to slick 100%??

Yes, all 4 options are on the dash, and you flick thru to whatever you want.

Don't forget the button on the left handle bar, that switches off the Traction control which allows you to wheelie if you want too.

Ah, I wasn't aware you could toggle through all the modes with the plug in. I thought it was just a put the plug in and it's in slick mode. That's good to know.
