GoPro vs Xdreme (review of Xdreme Camera)
I put this on another forum, but thought it may be of interest over here too. I was running a GoPro for track use and recently encountered a problem with it, after going back and forth with GoPro (including all the way up the ladder to the owner's wife) I've concluded that GoPro's customer service has gone to shitt and they appear to have forgotten the little guys that helped them get to where they are today... So I went on a mission trying to find an economical alternative to the (IMO) overpriced GoPro.
So I ordered an Xdreme 1080P camera and got it earlier this week. I haven't had a chance to try it on the bike at the track yet, but have played around with it at home and have it mounted and ready for this weekend's races.
Here's my preliminary feedback and comparison to the GoPro HD Hero:
---------From another forum I posted on----------
Well, got my Xdreme 1080P camera in the mail yesterday (from Hong Kong). Of course the GoPro is made over there (China) too... Haven't had a chance to use it on the track, but here's my initial feedback (compared to GoPro) based on the limited time I've spent playing:
- Menu - MUCH easier with the Xdreme... MUCH MUCH!!
- Ease of use to record, know you're recording, and know what you're recording - MUCH easier with the Xdreme... MUCH MUCH!! (has the little LCD screen in the back).
- Video... although I haven't compared them side by side... I would say they are VERY close in performance.
- Recording Sound... both are waterproof cameras so both to a degree suck as far as sound. That said for motorcycle use, both are just fine and there is not a clear winner. The Xdreme seemed to pick up voice better, but the GoPro seemed to pick up the sound of the motorcycle better (but not voice). The Xdreme also comes with an external mic if you want to use it (it also has it's own internal one). But to use it, you have to have the rear door open, which isn't ideal... but then again, it's all the waterproof stuff that is the causing that to be.
- Battery life - unknown at this point, but they advertise similar run times. However, a major difference is in fact that the battery the Xdreme uses is NOT a proprietary one and is used in many cameras and is easily come by (and cheaper).
- Mounting options - GoPro clearly has more mounting options... that said, the Xdreme had what I needed and the camera itself comes with the female tripod threaded hole which worked quite well for how mine is mounted.
- Cost - No brainer here... ~$140 vs. $300 (think I'll buy more track time!)

Thanks for the write up comparison. Likely ordering one shortly to give it a go as well. If I can get it before hitting the track I might even be able to post video comparo with the go pro as that is what I run on my CBR and can put this one on my S1K. For the price its worth a try. Cheers.

I would be curious to see how you mounted this. Any chance you can take a pic of the setup?

I'll snap a picture of mine in about an hour when I get home and post it up. Mine is a bit of a custom mount deal though that I fabbed up from some other mount I had laying around.
My ZX6R has a mount on the top triple for an Ohlins damper (stock), I am using a GPR so I had a threaded nipple (if you will) that I could attach my mount to... so that's what you'll be seeing. I'll get some pics up shortly.
