Hi,
I've been looking in to the possibility of changing my own tyres ("tires" to most of you guys!!) and would like to hear your views.
The only kit we have over here are the generic ebay jobbies that are also sold as branded items by Sealey . . . tc960 and the tc965. These both come with a metal tyre bar which will totally lunch alloy rims. Sealey recommend their TC963 which is similar to the NoScuff tire bar available to you guys in the States.
The ebay tyre changers are not man enough for the job and I would rather knock up a home-brewed affair and use it in conjunction with a TC963 or another decent tyre bar such as this . .
manual tyre machine changer bar alloy wheels car / bike | eBay
and demonstrated here . . .
An alternative is one of the NoMar models- the problem is, if I import it, I will have to pay shipping at circa $300 and also VAT and duty which is around an additional 25% on the full purchase price and shipping - all in, around $1500.
So . . is the NoMar a decent bit of kit? For those of us with a modicum of mechanical knowhow, is it reasonably easy to change tyres without damaging rims?
Which is the best model to go for?
Any advice or comments on personal experience would be welcome. From searching the forum, I know many of you use this kit but there has been precious little discussion about it.
I would like to use it for my car tyres as well and if it does prove to be a must have, perhaps I could arrange a EU/UK group buy and we could ship enough over to bring the cost down and make it worthwhile
