Help. Won't start, tripped planned
Power comes on to gauges, headlights.
Little high pitched wine (from fuel pump?)
Battery voltage and connections good
but no sound or action when starter switch pressed.
Tried push-start but nothing.
Checked kickstand switch and neutral and handle bar switches and connects a dozen times.
I have a trip planned with buddies in next couple days and local BMW dealer service not open until Tuesday (and they had no suggestion on the phone)
Background: 2012 w/ 650 mile. Prepped bike for Jennings by removing side (signal light panels) and marker assembly. Started and drove bike onto trailer, travelled 5 hours to Jennings and would not start next morning at the track. Tie downs nowhere near any connectors or wires.

Sounds like a starter relay could be at fault. You have Ign switch power, and EFI main power. Only one culprit left, something isn't telling the starter to start. Be it the starter relay, or the seemingly more troublesome switches.

Don't go too far,l can bet my million dollars it is a faulty Right combination switch, let them replace it for you.Very common issue with the S1000rr,irrespective of year model or mileage.

Thanks for your feedback.
Good news/ bad news: the bike started after posting this morning.
Background again: started and drove on trailer. Drove 260 miles. Unloaded and wouldn't start all day. Loaded on trailer, drove back. Unloaded at home. Still wouldn't start. (last night)
Started every try this morning.
Re-installed fairings and started again and again.
However, the one major difference: when it starts, I hear three sequential clicking noises, like relays, when I turn the key ON (before starting).
All day yesterday, none of the relays made noise.
Does anyone know what those relays are and what triggers them?
Time to search for a manual.
Now I'll never know if it will start when I'm on the road.

MY DEAR FELLOW RR OWNER,IT IS NO RELAY PROBLEM,BELEIVE ME,IT IS THE RIGHT COMBO SWITCH,THAT'S HOW IT BEHAVES WHEN IT'S GIVING UP,ONE TIME IT WILL START,ANOTHER TIME IT WONT.EVENTUALLY IT WILL FAIL TOTALLY.REPLACE IT...I HAVE HAD THIS REPLACEMENT TWICE ON MY 2010.DONT GO FIDLING OTHER PARTS...THAT IS THE CULPRIT! Power goes up to the engine run,but between there and start there is a break

Seems like this is a common issue, and will only happen again. One guy fixed his headlight combo switch instead of taking it back to the dealer...might want to do some troubleshooting on yours and see if you can come up with a fix. hi-beam-switch-repair

A little more trouble shooting on this in case it's of use to others:
When the ingintion switch (key switch) is turned ON, in addition to the three mechanical/ electrical noises (actually sound more like servos than relays) there are two prior quiter servo noises.
If the start switch is in the STOP mode, the latter louder three servo-like noises do not occur.
So maybe the problem is in the switch as suggested - i.e. the switch contacts stay in the STOP position.

Well, putting it on another trailer for a 10 hr trip to NC, Deal's gap etc.
'Hope the shaking doesn't cause the problem again.
Does anyone know if the switch is normally-open or normally-closed when in the STOP position?
That might help if I'm out in the boondocks and it happens again.
I'll bring tools to disassemble the switch and cut/splice the wires if needed.
I've ordered a service manual but it probably won't arrive in time.
It would be ironic if I had to rent a Harley to get a bike that ran.
