2012 SAPPHIRE BLACK S1000RR (standing impatiently @ the dealer's with unknown fate)

2010 MATTE-BLACK S1000RR
I was getting ready to ask the same thing...I bet the dealer typed his vin in and no recall showed up so they told him it's not affected...until the vin list comes out...

FYI, spoke to my salesman today an he said BMW sent them a letter stating the parts/fix kits will be shipped/arriving in a couple weeks and then the letters will follow...so he was telling me expect a letter in late May.

Thanks Andy, but l realized my laptop 'conrod bolts' got loose and caused the Caps Lock button to seize. Somehow l got the repair kit faster than BMW is getting those for the affected 2012s and l am back on track!
Anyways it's only a matter of time and hopefully we will be sorted out well and 2012 recall issue will be history.

Triple, actually vins affected are up to 16474, meaning 16475 is not included.
Quoting from paragraphs on page 2 of the BMW dealer notification letter of Fri,April 20th,2012;
"The production dates affected are Sep.1,2011-Apr.10,2012."

"The Factory has already initiated change on the production line and motorcycles with a VIN sequence starting ZL16475 or higher can be delivered to customers in the usual fashion with immediate effect following arrival at dealerships."

In South Africa all 2012 delivered have been recalled, however we have not lost a engine yet with units up to 4000 kilometres on bikes

Oh dear - BMW seemed to have messed up again :-(

I had one of the original 2010 S1000 which blew a camshaft @ 4500 miles. All replaced and blew again @ 9500 miles! hey ho. Argued with BMW for a while about having a new engine. They couldnt do that apparently but in the end I ended up with a new bike!.2011 model which I got in November 2010.

13,000 miles later it hasnt blown up yet (phew) but having had it serviced yesterday it now needs to go back in to have the exhaust header box (??) replaced due to excessive rattling on start up. I pointed this out to them prior to the service as a mate of mine had the same problem on his at about 6000 miles.
I wonder if they would've mentioned it if I hadnt?

This conrod issue seems to me to be fairly major - - friend of mine who races at the IOM TT has a view that a conrod falling off at 200 mph over the mountain would constitute a bad day at the office!

This is a major safety issue on a bike like this. Lots of horses knocking about in the engine!

And would you really want the BMW (service only) engineers stripping your brand new engine down and rebuilding it? I do wonder how qualified a lot of the guys in the workshops are for that sort of work ... (as opposed to changing the oil and filters, plugging in a laptop and washing your bike)

When you buy cutting edge machinery you have to be realistic and expect the odd teething problem, but camshafts 2 years ago and now conrods are big issues.
Major components like these should be tested to destruction prior to release on the market.
Are we the crash test dummies for BMW?

Sad times :-(

Great bike though - love it :-)

What's the difference BMW and all you who think its ok to strip down and repair - come on guys - reality check they owe us what we paid for - a factory fresh non tampered bike.
Maybe I need to do more research but I do not know off hand of any manufacturer car or bike that has replaced recalled vehicles with new ones.

Again I could be wrong but either way I just cant wait to ride my bike (repaired at the dealer or sent not needing repairs means little to me).
