I have a 3 Arai's, including an RX7 GP (Haga), which I wear mostly. I find it a little draughty in cooler weather, probably due to all the vents, and a bit noisy too. Lastly, when I'm on the track, and down low on the bike, I find that it limits my forward vision, as it sits on my forehead and shields a bit like the peak of a cap. I can't rotate the helmet back any further otherwise it wouldn't be on my head properly, and can't crane my neck any further back, so end up sitting a bit too high! I've tried the Shoei in the shop back to back with Arai and it does seem to allow me much better vision when my head is tilted forwards slightly (a la racer crouch). I've always used Arai, but think I'll give Shoei a try next. The Shoei was also as comfortable as my Arai too :-). Another advantage of the Shoei I'm hoping for, is that it might be a bit quieter than thr Arai due to the wrap around visor?!

I've noticed that there are only a few of you that own Icon helmets. I was interested in the Icon Airframe Carbon Life Form Helmet. Is there any reason that few of you have Icons? Any noise, quality, or fitment issues?

I have three helmets

Shoei X11
Arai Profile
HJC somthing or other

I have come to realize that the Shoei, after wearing it for two years does not really fit my head right. Well, it fits, but when I am in a tuck, a struggle to see straight ahead. The helmet does not allow me to luck up far enough for a clear view. I learned this after a day at the track with head down. I am considering a Schuberth C3. Had a demo of one and it was pretty nice, and quieter than the Shoei. I don't wear the Arai as it is too noisy with the vents open. The HJC was the only helmet that fit me when I bought the triumph speed triple. I needed a helmet to ride home and that was it.

It is a running joke with my friends; how many helmets will he buy this year...

I have 3 bikes, no excuse btw, and own 12 helmets currently. 2 enduro, one modular / flip-top and the rest regular full face helmets. I've been riding 22 yrs so some are a bit old but TBH I have bought at least 1-2 per yr over the last few yrs because of:
  • greater variety of helmets
  • lower prices
  • ebay - even Arai's and Shoei's are more reasonable
  • Motorcycle-USA et al, and the internet equals less cost
  • more disposable income
  • I'm a SINK and a motorcycle-nut = bad combination

I keep at least 2-10 helmet on my ebay want list and temper my purchases for the summer - trackdays - but lose control in the winter.

I just bought the S1000RR and likely to pick up the Panigale or MVF4RR... I already have the Ago replica helmet on my next purchase list.

The holy grail... Dunlop Arai... saw one on Ebay ... well over $1000 Yeah I'm not that bad... yet.
