My insurance renewal landed at the end of last week. My current insurance cost £598 last year so I was expecting a modest increase. No details have changed, (except another year's NCB), no accidents, claims, points, same address etc but insurance has been rising. I was shocked to see my renewal from the same insurer was £1494!! WTF?!

I called them and they said that it was a special deal last year. They said that because the bike isn't garaged makes a massive difference but she didn't seem to listen when I told her nothing had changed from last year.

The company I was with was MCE. I've tried all of the comparison sites and a few independents but I can't find anything cheaper than £900.

Can anyone recommend a decent insurer please?

EUR 310 (will cover theft, but no damages by myself). However, a German insurer won't help you

Just to make clear the differences between countries. Maybe you Brits should switch to the Euro

UK insurance companies have a licence to print money! That's some hike up. I'm with Bennetts who were the cheapest by far when I insured my bike last July but expecting a massive hike when my renewal comes in as that's what happened the last time I insured a bike with them. Sadly not able to recommend anyone as they all appear to be much the same as each other. Take it you have tried all the comparison web sites, I found the best deal on the MCN comparison site.

Happy hunting, hope it comes down.

Just out of curiosity I tried the MCN comparison site and managed to get a quote for £358 fully comp.

Obviously I don't know your own circumstances so probably not comparable as there are a lot of factors that insurance companies take into consideration.

But I am 31, licence held for 6 years, no points, advanced driving test done(not bike) and the bike kept in a garage. Now I will be pestered for the next 3 months from phone calls of people trying to sell me insurance.

Don't know if this helps or just rubs salt in the wounds which isn't my intention.

Cheers

I am currently waiting on a cheque from my insurer.
After a low side where my s1rr sustained a small amount of damage I was shocked to find it had been assessed as a total loss .
This claim has seen me replace my jacket and track pants and helmet for new as well as a complete refund on what I paid for my 2010 new. I had 20000km on her.
Now I must decide weather to purchase a 2012 or replace it with a 2010/2011 with low mileage with enough for full Ohlins , race plastics and quite a few other goodies.
No questions were asked regarding the incident. My verbal statement on where and how it occurred never questioned. All 10 days before the end of the insurance period.
Just saying. Price isn't everything

Bennetts are pirates. They make you legally insured but don't try to claim or cancel your policy. http://www.beware-bennetts-insurance...-policy.co.uk/

Anyway rant over, I got insured through BMW and it was comparable with most insurers for me, not bargain basement cheap like ahem bennetts but I trust them to look after me should something happen.

Thanks for that. I am 36, have 8 years NCB, no accidents and no points on my license. I do not keep the bike in a garage. It's in an enclosed residential car park right outside my spare bedroom window chained to a lamp post and covered.

I'll try the MCN comparison site and keep my fingers crossed!
