Post Confusion

Good morning Guys.

Let me tell you my story. I was and still am a Gsxr fan. Still have my 2010 Gsxr 1000. Wanted to buy the 2012 model but then I saw that its more or less the same as the one I have. So I went and bought the best bike ever and that is the BMW S1000RR(Love this thing to bits). But here is where i need your guys help, advise or just some thing because I am disapointed. I took the bike for its 1000km service last week and they removed the 9000rpm limiter. So i could not wait for sunday to take this thing on the open road and see what all the fuss was about. So I get to the place were we do top end runs and there i go. 275km/h I reached and thought no man this cant be wright let me try it again, again I went 273km/h. So this is where my disapointment came in because this same stretch of road I get 299km/h on my gsxr.(the red plug is in place on the BMW)

Second disapointmet was I took on an old 2005 Suzuki gsxr 1000 and we pulled off at the robot and this thing was sitting on my ass al the time. I thought I was going to leave him so far behind it is not even funny. Went to youtube then, checked out some videos and saw that this is what was suposed to happen i should'f left this guy like there is no tomarow.

My bmw is stock getting a full system soon. So my question is, is there some thing wrong with my bike does it need to be run in some more or what can the problem be? It has 1200km now.

Please any advise or recomandation welcome. If you want to be rude or cocky please dont reply as I realy are seeking good advise.

Thanks

Could be a genuine speedo reading on the beemer versus exagerated on the gsxr. I know the speedo on my CBR1100 reads out by about 10% so at the back straight of my local (2 and a half hour drive) race track I get 240ish out of her but the speedo on the bm reads a touch under 250 just about to grab fifth as I nail the brakes.

If you have the same difference on the beemer to gixxer it's possible the suzi is only running 270ish but the s1k is potentially (if the speedo is reading a little low) going closer to the tripple tonne. Also at that speed could the windscreen be making a difference?

Default Don't worry

I have a 2002 Gixer thou as well as the Beemer and admittedly there isn't that much difference in performance up to about the ton and that's where it ends. Get the Beemer up to 7,000 and hold on like grim death for there's not a lot out there that touches it. Speedo's on a lot of Jap bikes are an absolute mile out, the Suzuki I have must be a good 15-20 MPH inaccurate (probably more) at the the top end compared to the BM which is virtually spot on, give or take 2-3% inaccuracy. You'll find as the bike gets bedded in and loosens up it will get better. After saying all this the Gixer seems to have more torque lower down but in every other respect the BM licks it hands down.

The S1's speedo isn't too far off... it's not spot on as most I'm aware of aren't, but it's no where near as bad as many I've seen. At any rate, 275kph is NOT right. Did you buy this bike new? Have you checked the sprocket sizes to make sure they are stock and someone hasn't gone down in the front and up in the rear? Mine is a -1, +2 and I can hit right around there w/mine... If you have stock gearing you should be seeing another 25kph...

Check the gearing... 17/44 is stock. If that's not the issue, I'd make a stop at the dealer and have em check it out. Or if you know someone w/a dyno. Sounds like you have different gearing/sprockets or you're not making full power.

Last summer i went out with my s1000 and a friend on his 06 gsxr1000 and while riding side by side , my speedo was reading 130 kph and his gsxr was saying 142 kmh ..... My GPS was at 129
Both are stock all the way, obviously ...
So , again, GSXR speedos are optimistic !

I agree with the Suzuki speedo error theory, unless it's corrected with something like a SpeedoHealer or YellowBox a 9 - 10% error is common. As for the drag race unless you know the other bike don't assume it's stock. He could have had mods, spray, gearing, lighter or (take no offense) a better rider that could make the two bikes more equal.

Well according to BMW the bike goes from 0kmh to 300kmh in 19.1 seconds covering 1112 meters.

I have only had mine 3 months and i have hit 184mph on my gps. I really just ran out of road. It was 53 degrees.

I have a modded 2007 R1 and can hit 165mph(GPS) on this one stretch of road and I can hit a little over 180mph(GPS) on my BMW in the same stretch. You have a gearing problem or something with your bike, or you are not tucking in very good. Have one of your buddies go out with you and ride side by side and see.

My friend took my 2007 R1 out next to my 2011 BMW. I absolutely left him like he was sitting still over we got over 130 mph or so.

Default 190+ mph

I am still waiting on my 2012 so am just going off youtube, but 190+ mph seems to be pretty average top speed...if you are only getting 174 mph and are in race mode your bike has an issue....my 2 cents anyway.
