Default Twitchy throttle?

After getting the suspension set yesterday, I decided to take the training wheels off so to speak. I switched out of Rain mode. Only thing I can say is

But I also had some problems with the throttle. Jerkiness, especially when going over bumps. Felt like a complete n00b again. Now the throttle wasn't anywhere near that touchy while in Rain mode. And I've long gotten past such rookie mistakes on my F4i. Is this what people were talking about and was addressed in the 2012 models?

Or do I need to just admit I'm a n00b again and relearn throttle control?

Default It's the bike

Yes this is what has apparently been fixed for 2012. I find sport and rain are smooth but race and slick is really jerky. Although I only find it really bad when riding about town, impossible to ride smoothly. It is the only thing I don't like about my bike.

Race and Slick are more "twitchy" if you will but if you ride in the mode for a while you will get used to it. It is a basic design of the throttle modes. The less throttle turn needed in the "higher" modes, the more twitchy it is going to feel because every little movement or input at the throttle is increased compared to the lower modes.

Slick is recommended for track riding with slick tires. Smooth road surface--usually. Doesn't mean it is only for the track and there are several owners on the forum that ride only in Slick mode.

It's up to your preference.

Well i think the big difference you are noticing is the difference between dead throttle on a 600cc bike(RAIN MODE) and the snappy feel of a 193hp(BMW). Get use to it. If you feel it is too twitchy then put the bike back in Rain mode and get use to the power. I am not a pro racer or anything and the Race mode on this bike feels exactly like the throttle response on my R1. The only difference is the top third of the RPM has alot more power. Honestly the BMW is the easiest litre bike to ride fast. If it feels too uncomfortable to ride in Sport or Race then put in in Rain mode until you get more comfortable on the bike. I left my bike in Rain mode for first 300 miles, 300 miles in Sport, Once Rev limiter came off It hasnt come out of Race mode. I plan on messing with slick mode once the weather gets over 60 on a consistent basis. You are coming off a bike with 90 something RWHP. This bike probably weighs less than your old bike and has 180 RWHP. Be careful and have fun. Mess with the modes within your comfort zone.

So my choices are:
  • Trade my brand new 2011 in for a 2012
  • Pray bmw goes back and reprogram existing bikes
  • Suck it up and go back to square 1: practicing throttle control and eliminnating accidental inputs

Pretty much, but #2 isn't going to happen. LEARN how to CONTROL your throttle. What is an "accidental" input? Your brain.

I wanted the suspension setup before i started playing with the different modes. Might need to have her resprung as apparently I'm too light for the stock springs and they couldn't set the sag / preload right for my weight. Most of the accidental inputs came from jolts on bumps.

What I'm trying to figure out is if its just me being new to a liter bike, the bike or the need for new springs. I remember this happening when i first started on a motorcycle and learned to get past it.

The idea that the twitchy throttle will be FIXED on the 2012 is absurd. They gave the 2012 more midrange and it should be just as twitchy. I think what you are calling a twitchy throttle is what a modern litre bike should feel like. I think you need to work on your skill. You need time in the seat not a 2012.

I dont' like race mode twitchyness either but I have learned to ride in sport mode in an agressive style so that I don't miss the racing mode.

I don't think that the throttle on the S1000RR is that twitchy/abrupt unless in Slick mode. I think that the S1000RR is very smooth. I think the throttle on my 08 Gsxr1000 was a lot more twitchy/abrupt.
