Throttle Response with DTC and ABS turned off on the 2012
Sorry if this is another NFG (Marine Corps term for nubee...u figure it out question but on the 2012 (my Red beast is supposed to arrive next week) if you turn DTC and ABS off, do the 4 modes then just control throttle response and horsepower? Or with DTC and ABS off does it default to full response/HP? I am sure the dealer will answer my questions next Saturday when I take delivery but just curious how you get the bike in its completely natural state. My desire/plan is to get to know it without any training wheels...of course it will be a gradual process, I mean I was born at nite but it wasn't last nite...

unless you have been riding liter bikes for years DONT start out on the bike with the TC and ABS off.

I respect your opinion and understand why that would be good advice, but as a former AMA Expert license holder (albeit many years ago), and while I err on the side of caution, I am confdent in my skills on anything with 2 wheels...including go fast scooters.
So back to my question...???

Having the ABS, and TC turned off won't change the throttle response/engine mapping. That is controlled by the mode button. There is a sticky post that explains the differences in the modes.

The mode button will still manage your throttle response and of course if you're in Rain Mode, will still bump the HP down. So in essence the mode button still does the rest of what the four modes were designed to do minus the DTC and ABS interventions (since you'd have them turned off).

I'm pretty sure for the 2012's the difference in the three modes only control the DTC/ABS, not the throttle response any more. Except for rain of course.
I.E someone who wants the total throttle package of race, but still wants to keep the the full capabilities of the DTC can.

The modes(rain, sport, slick, race) really control throttle response. ABS and TC have nothing to do with it unless the TC intervenes in Wheelie control or in loss of traction situations. All of that said, If you are an experienced rider then ABS and TC off in slick mode shouldnt be a big deal at all. From everything i have read, Even in Slick mode with TC off, you still dont get full power in the first couple gears because BMW deams it to be unsafe or non controllable. Sport, slick, and race all have same power output except the throttle response gets better the in slick. I prefer to stick to Race mode incase i get into a rough spot out there. Race has the closest throttle response to a good dyno tuned liter bike. IMO, rain and sport have pretty crappy throttle response.

It is a tough and much anticipated wait! I remember almost 2yrs ago exactly, there was a handful of us awaiting the first S1's to hit the US. Good times!
