Default BMW will not cover worn clutch pack

My 2010 has been at the dealer since the beginning of November due to a loud engine rattle. Finally today i received a call from the dealer informing me that they found the water/oil pump bearing is spun and the sprocket is bad which will be covered under warranty. HOWEVER they also informed me that my clutch pack is severly worn and BMW will not cover it. I am right at 16k miles on the bike and can't remember having any issues with the clutch. However I am pretty upset that if there is something wrong with it that it isn't covered under warranty as i thought that is what a warranty was for?? The bike has never touched a track or had severe abuse. I'm just looking for anyone else who has had problems and to know how it was handled? Also should i contact BMW somehow and express my anger in hope to get it fixed?

This is exactly why I do all service myself. If the worst happens, I can get parts from a machinist or ebay within a few weeks. The time I save is worth more than what a warranty could possibly cover. And if I break it, I have no one else to blame but myself. That's the way I like it.

Clutches, like brakes, are considered wear items and are therefore not covered by ANY manufacturers' warranties. If perhaps you and/or your dealer can prove that there was a defect in the part(s) involved, you might be able to get it covered under warranty, but it sounds as though it will be an uphill battle perhaps not even worth fighting. Clutch packs are relatively inexpensive, and since the dealer already has your bike apart, they won't charge you much, if anything, for labor. Good luck...

I really haven't been concerned about the down time and actually told the shop to take their time that there was no hurry as the weather has been less than favorable here in PA. I usually switch to dirt in November anyways.

There is not one auto or motorcycle manufacturer on planet Earth that will cover a worn or potential worn clutch.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket replacement since it seems to be the general concensus that it shouldn't be repaired under warranty? I know the one from BMW is around $400 i was quoted.

Isn't a sprocket a wear item too? How come they are covering that?

Not the drive chain sprocket. I think they were either referring to the propeller for the water/oil pump or maybe a sprocket on the shaft that drives the pump if its chain driven.

Good luck man, I've been looking for an aftermarket alternative for a clutch pack for awhile now without luck. Cycle concepts has a friction pack replacement but not the steel plates, and you can't but those separately from BMW. Had to shell out 527 bucks for a new pack
