Thinking if picking up a camera GoPro(track/trips etc) most guys mount on the gas tank. I have a tinted wind screen . So any suggestions where is the best place to mount , so it be most interesting to watch later on the tube?
try the helmet mount. i just ordered a gopro im thinking of mounting it on the helmet , its also cool cause it has your view of everything to watch later with others.
You can use the suction cup and place the camera in front of the front fairing (above the small headlamp). You can place the camera at the same place, but facing the rider. The tail section is another interesting location if you want to have the "MotoGp" kind of video
Front would be cool , but from what my friends are saying , that once you put GoPro suction cups/mounts its almost impossible to take off with out damaging the paint
little late, but this is with the suction on the front fairing and tail fairing, along with the sticky on the tank cover. you canNOT beat the footage of a gopro
that whole video was basically shot with it. plus the wheelies and stoppies you didnt see.
i also use it on my 450x in 20 degree weather where the number shroud should be adn on the rear fender...lots of speed and bumps on the ice/snow and it doesn't fall off
I use the suction cup, (not a go pro) on the tank looking forward for track days, kinda like a cheap data logger, with a clear screen. Only drawback is that it gets in the way on the straights when you try and fully tuck.
No but it gives me an idea.... I bolt my cam to my mirror when I have then on. Bet o could attach a ram mount to the mirror mounts with the mirrors off. Hummm
I received a email from someone who has custom GO-Pro mirror mounts for a GSXR but didnt see on for a BMW, I'll look through the deleted email's to see if I can find it. Maybe they can make or offer one for the S1.
I've tried 6+ different ways with the GoPro suction mount on the tank and can't get usable footage. Too shaky. Even tried a rubber band harness to stabilize it better. Didn't help. I really like the dash in the lower frame but the vibrations are killing me. Today was the last attempt. Another waste of time.
Now I've decided the stickies ARE removable (YouTube hair dryer instructions) so I just put one on my helmet and one on the fairing low left.
I have the GO PRO 3 and I have been using the stickie mount. Try putting the stickie below where your mirror attaches to the fairing on either the left or right side. Very stable video
Only issue I have with mounting it to my helmet is once you pick up some speed it catches a lot of wind and you can feel a head bobble. Looking at the Contour Roam2 for a helmet cam.
bmwian has his off the triple tree. its so stable no vibrations at all. you can see his traction control light blinking the whole time he is on the track, lol. and you see his top speed too.

I have the DRIFT action cam and are loving it. I am going to get a second one so that I can have two angles at the same time. Here are some pic's taken from the video to give you some ideas of angles.
What I want to end up with the two camera's is like the pic of the guy on the Ducati,,,looks really cool.
A guy I ride with has an RR and he has his GoPro on a chest harness from them. Great position - good sound and you see are the instruments and part of his hands - and the entire road.
I have the chest mount coming with my H3 Black order. I had great results from the suggestion further above to mount on the front faring. Here's a couple minutes of that from last week on the H2 at 720p 60fps (the higher frame rate really seems to help with smooth motion):
here's a video I took from a helmet-mounted Contour - not the greatest but not that bad. I think the best place on the S1000RR is on a RAM mount on the triple tree - need to get one of those!
FYI...........I tried the hairdryer method to remove GoPro sticky mounts off my helmet and my bike faring. Worked great. No issues at all however the removed mounts are not reusable.
I use the chesty mount and had the best luck with it. Though I primarily use it to prove my speed so it gets a clear view of what's in front of me and my dash.
i use a drift hd 170.....the one film i twisted my mirror and insulation taped the cam too it ( just a experiment but lookt well ) youtube links just a few video,s
