Default Hotter engine with after market air filter

I had an after market air filter installed since new, 'cause you know, that's what you do. Recently I reverted back to the factory air filter and am sure the bike is now running cooler (it's 30C+ (86F) temperatures in my part of Aus). From the exhaust smell, it also seems to be running richer and the bike feels better for it.

In my case the engine is stock save for a full Devil exhaust.

So I'm curious, if you reckon your bike is running hotter than a typical Japanese 4, do you also have an after market air filter installed and no PCV to compensate & richen the fueling?

It shouldn't change fueling that much .... I've done lots of filter comparisons and the most I have seen with a filter change is ~1.5 wHP as compared to stock (which equates to less than 1% of fueling)

What Ransom said... the bike's ECU will continue to compensate for any filter change and try and achieve it's base fuel mappings as originally programmed.

Now if you go get a good tune from somebody and get your bike running a little richer than the stock ECU is set for, you can (and likely will) certainly see some differences in temps.

Not sure how good the ecu is in compensating for more air, but what you are describing fits with an engine that is running lean (i.e. more air in the fuel air mixture) due to a higher flow air filter...I'm old school carbs so not up on this new tech yet (my 2012 S1RR is supposed to arrive next week...yes!!!)...so just sayin

I have a K&N installed and bike runs same temps...HOT. stopped worrying bout it. I doubt your filter has to do with the higher temps.
