Default Alarms

Was wanting to know if I should get a BMW alarm system or get the scorpio system. I heard the scorpio has some battery draining problems. Is the BMW one LOUD at all?

I don't have any experience with either alarm yet, but after lots of research I plan on getting the scorpion. Seems like some folks don't care much for the factory alarm.

I worked at a shop for years that carried;
Ducati
Aprilia
Kawasaki
Suzuki
Moto Guzzi

They would only install Scorpio alarms because they are easy and had less problems the factory crap. I am not sure about the BMW alarm but the Scorpio will work fine. They make a great product.

I cant find any videos on how loud the alarms are or their tones either. I kinda want a demo so I dont get some underwhelming noisemaker. I heard the BMW one is good and the scorpion is good but a big battery drainer.

I like my Scorpio. HID automatic arming/disarming. No need to push buttons. It just works.

I had the factory one on my current bike, and i think it is rubbish, as it turns off after 1 hour of being stood still which i think is a waste of time having it. I never got given the manual by the dealership and so have no idea how it works.
I have a 2012 on order and won't be getting the factory one and so am too keen to hear what one would be best.

I would recommend Scorpio i900 with BMW s1000rr factory connector kit that u can get for $25 - $30. That way u r not cutting any wires. I have it and it is pretty awesome. Perimeter sensor with sensitivity set at 20% is the optimal setting.

+1. However my perimeter sensor is a little higher. And no I haven't noticed any unusual drain on the battery.

The BMW alarm doesn't shut off after an hour. The alarm function is still active. It will shut off but only after a couple of weeks. What you are confusing is that it is shutting down the part of its functionality where it is aware of the key fob. Meaning, it won't recognize you trying to arm or disarm the alarm with the key fob after one hour. This is to conserve battery life. To disarm you simply put your key in the ignition and turn the bike on. The alarm disarms instantly. You should get the manual from the dealer. They should have given you one with the alarm. If they won't send/give you one for free you can probably order one. You can change the functionality of the alarm with just the fob--auto arm, type of tone, etc.

The functionality of the stock alarm is pretty good. It has the same features as the i800 Scorpio alarm but no proximity sensor, which is a very big plus for the Scorpio alarm in my opinion.

I personally have the Scorpio. Would like to get the harness adapter and clean up my install a little bit.

No battery drain noticed.

The BMW alarm only fits in the trunk--wires are not long enough to put it anywhere else. My Scorpio I put to the right side of the subframe rail--remove the upper tail section and install it there.
