Default Bad day at the dealer...

For someone else not me, thankfully! I drove bout 70 miles today to get my new 2011 s1000rr. Had my gear in the back seat, 3 layers of clothes on and a buddy in the front seat so i could ride her back. The whole ride in, I kept eyeing the sky (overcast), rolling down the window to check winds (occasional gusts) and monitoring the weather overall (cold as heck and even saw a tiny flurry).

Got to the dealership, chatted a bit with the saleswoman and started signing the reams of paper. When i got done I finally asked "hey, how much to deliver? I'm not liking the idea of riding this weather with an unfamiliar bike". She almost collapsed in relief.

Before we got there, she had sold a brand new Diavel to a guy. He had experience but not with the specific bike. She tried to convince him to let them deliver it but his ego said no. Dude wadded it up in the parking lot. Cold pavement + cold tires + brand new brakes + inexperience = guy sitting at her desk crying for an hour about his wrecked new bike.

They tossed in delivery for free for me

In those conditions you have everything going against you. Getting it delivered is a good move.

Good on the dealer! Who was it btw?

Sucks for the Duc! Never good to hear of a fellow rider crashing.

Dealer was Cross Country BMW in Metuchen, NJ. I tipped the driver $150 in case he got paid by the delivery and he beat me home by a half hour due to a GPS error.

The guy was apparently ok. But from the sound of things, it wasn't a noob drop or slow low side.

Great to hear about a dealer that cares about their riders.

So the Diavel is a beast of a bike...I wonder if he just grabbed brake?

Yeah, great dealership. Picked up 2 covers for my bikes while there. The accessories salesman pulled one of the covers out of the box and put it on a showroom bike to make sure I got the right size

Great dealership, bought mine from them! Good people and riders themselves.

Thumbs down

Unfortunately this happens more often than most think. Ive witnessed it 3x at 2 different dealers myself. In the summer time at a certain dealer in LA, it happens 1x a week, guaranteed!

We have all seen the dude on the new GSXR loaded with gear wipeout. I used to laugh every time I would watch that but in reality it is not all that funny.

Inexperienced new riders, on cold and new tires puts people down. I hope the dude on the Duc is okay.
