Default Rode the 2011 R 1200 GS

I took my '11 s1krr into the dealer for service, and took one of their demo gs 1200 as a loaner while they service my bike. I must say, the GS is an amazing bike! Because it is so tall and the handlebar is so wide, it flicks a lot faster and easier than the s1krr, judging by how I was tippy toeing around, I would say the gs is 1.5 to 2" taller.

I also really appreciated the grip warmers, they are really useful in the cold morning hours. I kind of wish I waited for the '12 s1krr and got the option with the grip warmers. I asked if I can install them myself but the mechanic said it's not advised since the sator's life would be reduced due to the increased power usage. Looks like the 1199 or r1 will have to wait while I buy a GS

1200 GS is the bike that I'm seriously thinking about as a second bike to do everything else you can't/won't do with S1KRR.
Owners love that bike!

Funny you say this. I have been looking at the Yamaha Super Tenere. Think this may be the all day everyday bike when I get back to the states.

Default The Best of Both Worlds....

A GS1200 or a RT1200 is a great compliment to the S1000RR. There's almost nothing you can't do with either of those combinations.

That wasn't my intention, the RT a totally different bike than a GS (both the RT and GS are great tourers though)). The major point was that a S1000RR is also a great stable mate to either of those bikes.

Nah, K13S is a better stablemate for an S1000RR. You need a shark to go with the barracuda, not a whale.

Everyone is entitled to there own opinion, but if you're going to have multiple bikes, it makes sense (at least to me) to have bikes that overlap as little as possible (there I go again, using common sense and not emotions).

The RT is premium tourer and has won "Touring bike of the Year" 5 years running (last time I checked). Now if you don't tour (or have a different purpose for your additional bike(s), then it really doesn't matter what you ride, as long as you're happy.

My 3rd bike is an Aprilia Dorsoduro 750, I'd like to think I have all the bases covered: Tourer, Sport Bike, Hooligan/City Bike.
