2011 BMW S1000RR wreck today
While I was out riding my 2011 BMW S1000RR i went tearing up the mountain roads and come up on a wreck. Guy riding his BMW bike slid into a guard rail. Guy was under the guard rail and bike was accross the road in ditch. They had just put him on a stretcher and were taking him to the hospital. He looked to be in pretty good shape(some broken bones i am sure). I ride by his bike and it is a brand new 2011 BMW s1000rr in light grey. Exact same bike as mine. He obviously went into the turn too hot (70mph max). We live next to an army base so i am guessing it was an inexperienced soldier. I know he didnt hit the rail at 70mph or he would be dead. I guess he freaked out in the curve and laid it over.
I am kind of curious to hear what happened with the guy. It is in the Louisville KY area.

In the technical sense yes hills. the hills of Kentucky. The tires looked broke in but big strips

Well if he would have taken the proper msf sportbike course he would have known that going fast on roads that you've never been on you should take it slow. Also the speed that you approach a turn without knowing where the apex is can spell disaster. It's mandatory for navy after 60 days of owning a sportbike. They emphasize speed so much on the course its not funny. I hope that he recovers and gets back on the road. I had a friend Brad in Australia last month who got cut off by a car suddenly deciding to turn left on him in a roundabout. Fractured his pelvis and his front of his bike is smashed in.

My first pullover on the S1000RR was north of Virginia City, Nevada. There's a windy mountain road that drops down into Reno near there.
Sheriff says he's worked two 'runners' on sportbikes who slid out under the guard rail. Problem is their body goes under the rail okay, but their head and helmet don't so it becomes a decapitation scene.
I was surprised he told me he usually doesn't cite bikers if they pull over and stop for him. If they run, they get them at the other end via a radio call.

the exact place was 44 west heading out of Shepherdsville. 44 west runs into Dixie hwy at West Point(next to Fort Knox). You start up 44 hill and the curves are 110 mph max and then you hit a corner that you cant do more than 70mph. It was the first tight corner going up the hill. The thing is the guard rail keeps you from going down about 150 foot embankment with only trees to stop you on the way down. It was a clear day with 55 degress yesterday and perfect roads. Cold roads since overnight temps drop to below freezing. It was still warm enough for me to lay all the way over on the bike without any slippage. I wasnt powering out of corners but was laid over about 1/2 inch from edge of tires.
