Default Bike show disapointment

I went to the bike show in Novi Mi yesterday to see the new BMW's. Guess what, BMW chose not to participate. I was disapointed for myself and some friends who were with me who wanted to see the new bikes and compare them with the competition. I think this is a PR blunder on BMW's part, it is disappointing to current owners and they miss the chance to impress new potential owners. It also does their dealers a disservice. Hoping for better in the furure.-T1

Agreed. I didn't bother going...it was decent like 3 years ago but has been lacking the last 2.
I worked the show last year for my club (rsb) but this year we didn't go due to some circumstances.

No loss, already ordered my bike

I was eagerly awaiting the bike show in Chicago until I learned that BMW would not be participating in that one either. I believed they would only be in the CA, and NY shows. It is a little disappointing as I am eager to see the bike in person

Yeah. BMW only goes to the NY and CA shows now. Rest of country doesn't seem to matter to them as they don't generate the foot traffic those two shows do.

As others have pointed out, BMW North America has been "stingy" about being at organized national bike shows (like the IMA series the last couple of years), this early in the season. It doesn't fit their production schedule.

The last one they were at in full force other than just the New York or Los Angeles shows was 2010 when they first introduced the S1000RR - and they didn't have final production versions at that show either. It was a pre-prod version.

You guys who are clamoring to see and get your VIN #s for 2012 models - read my lips. It's too soon yet. They may be on the dock in Jersey, but they haven't been released yet.

Now, that doesn't mean local BMW dealers don't attend the shows, but they are going to be showing off last year's models until February, when they get their demo models.

Same story,... same release cycle.

And yes, I'm disappointed too.

I totally agree. I was pissed off that neither BMW or Ducati showed up. Those were the only 2 bikes I wanted to see this year. I wasted $30 on tickets (2 people) and $5 on Parking to go in there and walk around for 1 hour. Thats all it took for me to cover the whole floor plan. I WILL NOT BE GOING NEXT YEAR.

Can anyone tell me if they had a nice selection of helmets at the show?
I still plan on going to the show in Chicago in the hopes of finding a helmet and having several brands to try on

I can see why ppl are upset. But considering that BMW had 24% of the sportbike market last year with the s1k I'm pretty sure they figured they could forego the smaller shows and just hit the major markets.

Not that I think that's fair bit it is a company that is in #1 for there market right now so they are just protecting thier bottom line.

Is BMW confirmed that they will be at the NY show? I will be in NYC during that weekend and I can swing by Javits Center if they will be displaying.
