Default 18,000 mile service just done!

Just had my 18,000 mile service done (at 18,683 miles) on my 2011 BMW S1000RR which I have now owned for 13 months....

No valve adjustment was neccessary; on my third set of brake pads (Carbon Lorraine C59s).. Everything looks good. 18,683 flawless miles.... EXCEPT! After the service, I couldn't get the bike to shift above 10,000 rpm.... Turns out that they had adjusted my shift linkage and it was tooo tight.... Took it back and they readjusted and set the clutch switch from 45 mm to 29 mm (I have no idea what they mean by that..) and now it's back t being flawless..

I have to say that this Motorcycle is utterly brilliant! I commute to work on it every day, rain or shine.. recently it has been 27 degrees when I leave for work every day... I have been running the Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tires and I am getting around 4,000 miles per rear, whereas I was getting around 1,200 per rear on the Stock Metzelers...

Overall, this Bike is massively impressive... fast as HELL with my PCV and full Akarapovic EVO Ti system with custom map from Factory Racing; yet perfect for my commute as well as trackdays. I have a Ducati Panigale Tricolore coming as my Weekend/Track Toy, but the BMW will be my everyday/long road trip Bike.. Cannot say enough good things about what a stunning achievement BMW has come up with... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this beast!!!!

Do you mean early 2011 prod#? I took delivery in November 2010.. Not sure if that constitutes an early 2011 prod#

Do I look at the last 4 digits of my VIN# or my engine #for that information? If so, I am 2334 on the VIN# and 8076 on my engine#

Nice to see a good write up on a bike that has 18,000 proven miles without issue. I just wonder if anyone has more than 18,000 on their s1000rr. Like you, I love mine. Liked the 2010 Thunder Grey so much, I bought a second one, 2011 Yellow after selling a ZX14 and Thriumph 675. I have had no problems so far. Putting Heli Bars and Sargent seat on the 2011 over the winter.

Just wondering what the issue is with light crank versus "disk one"?
What is a "disk one"?

Also you said that your number is "847" and sbs stated his last 4 on VIN and engine and you said that his VIN number was the right number, how does that correspond with a serial number of production?

Thanks.

You might want to take a look at a set of Apex bars. They are FULLY adjustable, unlike the Helibars. If you're not thrilled with the overall geometry of the Helibars, you're out of luck. Although not on my S1KRR, I do have them on my CBR1KRR and love them. The worst thing about them is that you'll be f***ing around with them for a bit getting them just the way you want them.
