Default No throttle response..

Turn on ignition, Engine Management light stays on. Bike starts but no response from throttle (if anything the throttle killed the engine in a limp way). Doesn't happen everytime and not from cold - usually after a ride when the bike has stood for a while. Trouble is i's RANDOM as it doesnt happen each time (obviously doesnt happen when the dealer tries!). Been at the dealer and he had it for 2 weeks trying lots of BMW initiated tests and eventually they changed the 'commander' (?!). Happy I rode off till had the problem again yesterday Xmas shopping! This time the throttle has no effect and the engine just ran at turn-over. REALLY SAD to have such an amazing bike but with this random fault which the dealer doesnt seem to be able to fix and my warranty runs out in 3 months!! Help - can't believe this is an isolated incident!!! Are there anythings I could get my dealer to check/change.

Same problem, only happened after good heat soak. Told my dealer about it at the recall service, they said that they couldn't reproduce it, fair enough. I went to leave, no throttle.
They replaced the throttle body assembly, fixed, so far. I think my bike was in the third batch, vin ending in 3502 delivered 5-10 in Au. Good Luck

Bring the bike back to the dealer again and tell them it is still happening. Have them file a PUMA report. Sounds like the throttle servo in the throttle bodies. If they have it documented a couple of times before your warranty expires it can probably be covered after your warranty is up. Just make sure they document it--get a copy for yourself to keep (don't just take their word for it).

Although never happened to me strangely enough I was at a motorcycle dealer recently where someone had something like you describe - he was in the process of calling out BMW emergency... dont know what happened though just though you might like to know is doesn't seem to be an isolated incident!

thanks again for the reply - my vin is 3606 from 03 10 (they must take a few months to get to OZ!). Was it a big job replacing the throttle body assebly!? sounds like it!

I don't think it's a very big job, access is fairly easy, the tough part is the glacial response of BMW au 7weeks. You should be better, hopefully, shipping the part was the slowest bit. It showed up as a throttle position sensor fault on the gs911, I found that if you cycled the key 10 -15 times it would get it working again. Although this must of cleared the fault log in the ecu, because the dealer said there were not faults logged. It's a tough one, once the bike is cold it'll start OK and clear the error log, so you need them to look at the log without attempting to start the bike once the problem has occurred.

I think the symptoms point exactly to either the TPS (the sensor that reads the requested throttle position from the twistgrip) or the servo(s) that open the TB's. I'm not familiar enough with how this system works to isolate things further, but this should be enough for a dealer to start replacing stuff.

The ECU fault should log a trouble code to convince the dealer of the problem and might point to the specific system at fault.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm still surprised that the S1000RR doesn't have the typical TB sync maintenance that every other four-cyl motorcycle has. Does this mean each TB has its own servo and the ECU manages the sync between them? Anybody know how this system is setup?

Throttle plates are all activated by one rod going through all four throttle bodies. There is no "adjustment". They are set at the factory. You would need a flow bench to do it properly.

I believe there are 3 throttle potentiometers on the throttle bodies (at least 2 for sure). One measures what the rider is inputing from the twist grip. Second is on the throttle servo motor which reads the amount the servo is moving the plates. There may be one other
