Default Considering 2012 S1000RR

I will have to give up a K1200R and a Ducati 848 to make it happen. I have been doing a lot of searches here and have found a lot of good information. I guess i am looking for some assurance i will not miss the K bike and most importantly the Ducati if i make the switch. I love the looks, twin, sound, etc of the Ducati, but i am hoping that RIDING the new BMW will make that fade away.

Thanks for any input!

I was invited over here by antoher K bike (I-BMW) rider. I am enjoying your forum.

Yeap, test ride is the key, the longer the ride, the better the assessment.

Good luck,

BMW test rides are the best in the industry! Mine lasted 6+ hours and covered over 200 miles of city, highway and lots of canyons on a near new fully loaded Motorsport with a slip-on for nothing more than showing my DL, Ins. card and a signature.

The S1000RR is a very fun ride, but it is pure sportbike compared to the all-arounder you have in the K1200R and it is not as visceral as the 848. I doubt you'll miss them much, but don't expect miracles - the S1000RR is very good at what it does, but it is not a swiss army bike. If I could have only one bike, it wouldn't be the S1000RR.

i went from a ducati 848 to the s1000rr. and i can speak on this, i miss my duck SO much. i had to switch because someone backed over it. at the time the 1199 was just in the rumour photo stage. i didnt wanna get another 848 cause might as well go bigger. didnt want the 1198 becuase it would already be a model behind as soon as the 1199 came out. so i went with the s1000rr. im not disapointed in the bike, its fine but i dont know how to expalin it but its not a duck. i am actually talking to a local duck shop about a 1199 and getting rid of the s1000.
so im short, i dont think that you will be happy. i know that i am not.

if you have any specific questions let me know

It really depends on why you are looking for in a bike. If you want that untamed animalistic character and bark the duc has..you won't find it here. BUT..if you want to be faster/smoother and have a precision machine....the S1000RR cannot be beat. It is ballistically fast man. seriously...take it for a test drive. Scary fast

^^^ woah there buddy, seeming to be a little biased. the duck has the same HP as the bmw s1000rr and will seem a whole lot faster because it has more torque, thats the nature of a twin. now im not saying that the bmw isnt quick because it is. other than that i agree with your post 100%

I have a 2011 s1000rr and a 2007 r1. Those ducati 848's are nice. I really think you might have buyers remorse if you didnt give the 1199 a chance. I love the bmw but it doesnt have the character of a ducati. That is not to mention you have a good mix of bikes. If you are into to raw untamed hp, swing a leg over the BMW.

I personally think you have a pretty good combo, but what does your typical riding usage consist of? Those 848's are great bikes, probably one of the most usable bikes you can get. Is yours an Evo or the standard 848?

I love Ducs, and have had several of them (1198S, 848 Evo, 749S, 750SS), so I hope no one construes this as being one-sided because it's BMW forum (although, what do you expect, it IS a BMW forum). My 1198S had all the possible bolt-ons done to it (light flywheel, full race Termi's, filter, etc.), and it was one heck of a beastly bike. Yes it oozed "character" in the typical sense, but the BMW has it's own character in the form of precision scalpel-like refinement. The Ducati never "scared" me in the way the BMW does (I went back an picked up a '11 S1000RR); it is SOOO much faster on the top end that everytime I open it up I find myself screaming profanity into my helmet.

If you're looking for an incredibly well mannered (if you play nice with it) and handling bike, that has the ability to outrun just about anything, and want German refinement, the S1KRR is hard to beat...
