Certainly interesting... hadn't ever thought to do that for getting a bike into a truck. I guess it would depend on how often you would use it, how easy (and safe) it is to rig and lift your bike that way, any issues w/it taking up floor space in your truck, theft, and if you have any other clearance issues relating to the boom/crane sticking up (camper shells, garage doors, etc.).
Personally, I would always opt for an enclosed trailer just due to the storage aspect and not having to pack and unpack all your crap all the time as well as the security aspect (locked trailer, out of site out of mind). But some folks don't have a place at their home to store a trailer.

maybe some one can help you out. i remeber a buddy of mine had a kit that went in the back of his pickup and you would press a button, and it would drop the tailgate and then kind of like a flat bed tow truck, but it would hydraulicly lower rails that you would put the bike on and strap it down, and then press anohter button and it would lift it back in the truck. i think it might have been from HD as i know he used it with his HD and most of those guys only buy HD stuff.
hopefully this will jog someone elses memory.

put me down for using an enclosed trailer, I have a 6x12 with ramp door and between it and the pit bull trailer restraint system, it is just too easy to one man load and unload my bikes when I need to. you can lock it up, if you put no stickers or other markings on the outside there is no clue it has a nice bike inside, bike is kept out of the rain while being hauled, you can carry all your gear in the trailer with the bike, leaves the bed of your truck unmolested and when not in use for a bike you can use it to haul all kinds of stuff.
in this economy you can prob find a nice trailer for around the price of that lift.
but then space isnt an issue for me (we own a 48 acre horse/cattle ranch) and I am used to hauling trailers (have a 4 horse slant gooseneck,5 horse slant goose neck, 18 ft stock gooseneck,25ft flatbed goose neck and the little 6x12 cargo

That rig was on sale & display at Daytona Bike Week, and used a Condor front wheel chock to secure the bike as it was winched into the bed. Then the loading ramp retracted; think it was around $2800. Sweet, but pricey.

Sorry, I was just wandering through the vendor tents, and watched a demo. The truck bed unit is about 6" high, and an extended ramp electrically comes out underneath. The bike front wheel rolls into a Condor and is winched aboard, the the ramp retracts. Didn't take the brochure after I heard the cost. Maybe the manufacturer will show up on a Google search. If I knew the link I would have included.

Motorcycle Loader
Trailer works best for me, this rig would kinda mess the truck up for carrying other stuff.
