Cobra iRadar? Anyone out there have one?
Greetings everyone,
As the title says, has anyone purchased the iRadar for iPhone/Android? The reviews on the radar websites are pretty strong in regards to performance and features. I believe it's ranked no. 9 for 2011, whereas the Valentine One is no. 10.
If this system works well, it would be so convent to use my phone for all on board functions. I.e. gps, video, radar, phone, music...
Let me know what you think if you have one.
Thx.
Jay

Looks pretty cool... don't have one, but not a bad price. Wonder if you pair it to your Droid, if you can also transmit the warning signals from your phone over bluetooth to a helmet receiver??? Then you could play your music and have it interrupted when it receives a warning...

The website says that it has an Android application. If your phone is paired to your helmet bluetooth headset, it won't be able to connect to Cobra at the same time and vice versa.

I've been using it in my jeep for two years now. The sensitivity and range is outstanding. The module looks like a bluetooth speaker phone device...so if you're in a state that doesn't allow radar detectors, its pretty easy to convince the officer its not a radar detector. The gps database of cobra in general is a little lack lust in smaller cities but for areas like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Atlanta it works pretty well.
Audio notifications come from the unit while visuals come onto the phone. you can also train it to not notify false signals. say you go bye the drug store and that sets it off, simply select false on the phone and after 3-4 times it learns not to react to the signal in that area.
hope this helps!

Great concept but reading their support forum ... seems to be lots of issues with the software.
Can't believe nobody else is building the bluetooth right into the detector? Escort has the Escort Live but it requires an extra plug and chords (aka messy install) and is also subscription based. The radar detector should be a black box wirelessly connected to your smart phone that handles all the location aware services as well as the display unit for the detector.

There were some issues when it first came out, but those have long since been resolved. The only issue i ever rarely have, and i mean RARELY, is the initial bluetooth connection with my iphone.

Damnit... that just ruined it for me... Guess you could get one of those centralized Blue-tooth devices, eh?!

Lets do this right!!!!
Lets just say I like to go fast!!!!!
What you should buy:
First don't waste your money on a plain radar detector that doesn't come with GPS (for red light cameras and speed cameras) that can be updated online. Passport 9500xi or there is a beltronic one also. These units are far superior in detaction range and signal strength.
However, the radar detector will not save you from LASER!!! for this you need a laser jammer or blinder system. Laser guns only emit energy when the officer pulls the trigger so buy the time your radar/laser detector goes off from a laser gun it is to late. This is why I recommend a Jammer to work along side of your detector.
If you think I know alot about this Google: Radar Roy and read his reviews.
My touring bike is a K1200s and after 2 speeding ticket which I spent over $1000 in costs on out of state ticket. I spent $700 on this setup (everything was bought on ebay) passport 9500xi and Blinder 27. Ticket free ever sense and I still do 90+ on the highway without that sinking felling in me gut.........lol........
Any Questions Hit me up!
O if you do get the laser jammer. Set it up so you wire in a kill switch, that way once the laser detector goes off you can reduce your speed and then turn off the jammer so the cop can get a reading on you. Laser jammers are not legal in all states.

And soon as the cop sees you grab your cellphone to see or set an 'App' he gets you for "Distracted Driving" and you are out $175 in CA.
