Colleagues, I'm planning to install a hard-wired GPS, to get me back home when needed. Anyone know how/where to tap into a switched voltage source in the bike without dismantling everything?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Macca, I like your method, but one question: with the wiring in the left fairing, how are you able to get the left fairing off? Do you disconnect the wire at the location near the frame first? Or is there "slack" in the wire so the fairing will come off? Or something else?
Thx!
Got it. Thx! I appreciate the write up and info you provided. Along with the info the others provided, this thread was very helpful.I've left slack, same as BMW did with the indicator
Thanks z00!!BMW aux part needs to be connected with specific order to USB module. Read in previous page, but here is info again:
bmw part number 83300413585 which has numbers on wires. Connect as follows to wires on USB module.
1 to ground, 3 to V, 2 ignore.
Be sure to replace all blown fuses. And you connect USB module to correct aux plug. There are two plugs on clutch side under the fairing, one is aux, the other is not. See user manual to confirm. This is for 15+ RR.
Need more help could not get this to workWell, having a 2014 HP4 and definitely the left side plug is for the 2D fork travel sensor only and the plug on the right side is for aux power supply for USB or Navi and has 3 pins, one for ground and one for either 12V switched off immediately and one for 12V power with a 20s delay. There is a OEM BMW connector available too.
Yeah, I think it's a HP4 think, not enough amps or something, got another simpler plan now.See my previous post about using number on BMW plug. Be sure you connected USB module correctly to BMW plug.
On 2nd gen bikes right side (front brake side) is what's available I think.
Sorry, been following the thread. What do you mean by tank tunnel ? I need to wire my Garmin Zumo 590LM in and want it back to battery as neat and protected as possible. Do you mean remove the shroud adjacent to the tank as some have suggested or lift the tank up and send it over the engine ???I am with you, kind of, my Garmin stock fused power cable with connectors for audio input and output runs right back to battery. No Canbus worries, no splicing, soldering, etc. The cable runs right up under the tank tunnel. Why is this a strange solution to a specific simple problem, in my case, power for GPS? I am not pushing this on anyone, but I am curious why this is a strange way to solve this need??
why not wire it to the 12v auxiliary plug?Sorry, been following the thread. What do you mean by tank tunnel ? TIA Vindy.
Maybe I won't bother then. BMW dealer near me is of no help.....not BMW kit so won't install it......The 12v power source at the front of the bike is the best way to go. It's ignition power so you can't flatten your battery and its close to the steering where your GPS will be mounted. The battery idea is actually harder.
