I've seen this before...I wonder why it keeps popping up. Did someone really go through all this trouble to sabotage peoples engines? ..or is there any truth behind it?

this has been beat to death over the years, but yes there is truth in it, a motors need RPM to seat rings the worst thing you can do to a new motor is to lug the it

I find the happy medium and keep engine speeds varied

Don't know about anyone else but it works for me. Drive or ride it like you stole it. I've "never" owned a slow version of any bike. I always run them in hard and take them straight to the track within a couple of months and the engines always turn out to be powerhouses. I've owned a lot of different bikes and I've had a lot of friends that have had some of the same models I had an broke them in easy and there was no comparison between their power and mine. I would blow them away every time. It works for cars as well. I had my Beemer built when I was stationed in Germany and broke it in on the Autobahn... wide open everywhere I went and this engine is a BEAST now. Well, I do take back the comment "never owned a slow version of a bike" because I had an 04 Triumph Daytona and I rode it hard as hell out of the crate and it still "SUCKED"..... but I never compared it to another 04 Daytona.

This is why I would never buy a used bike. I never know if the previous owner subscribed to fringe mechanics.
