ZTechnik Tall Touring Shield review
I now have 200 miles on a ZTechnik tall touring shield for the S1000RR. My review is largely favorable.
I'm 5'11", 34" sleeve length and have Helibar risers on the bike. The ZT puts the wind at my neck, a bit on my shoulders & a good bit on my head. It keeps much more wind off my body. Air from shoulders down feels calm.
It does make the wind feel stronger, because the wind is redirected from body to my head. The wind that was spread out is now concentrated. For example, at 70, it feels like I'm going 90 due to the increase wind at my head.
The airflow is fairly smooth. I haven't noticed any buffeting at any speed.
The shield does feel like it creates some wobbling effect at speed. It's like the wind is going left/right/left at a mid-frequency. This is very subjective. At the same time, this is not buffeting: it's like it has a sine wave left to right.
If you buy the shield, I strongly recommend buying 8 new grommet/bolts. They are a pain in the ass to remove & install. Just leave a set in each shield - normal & cold weather.
Material of shield is thick! Fits fine on the bike, but due to the big round profile, I guess it needed more strength from the material.
In summary, if you like cold & cool weather riding, I highly recommend it.
