The new BMW WSBK Leon Haslam
Hello Mates, thought I would post a pic of the new WSBK from BMW. New look and all new electronics. Can somebody tell how in hell that bike is leaned over with front wheel not counter steering? or is it a shadow effect or what
The racing driver BMW Superbike, Haslam and Melandri tested the new electronics system for the test three days in Jerez, moreover to two racing drivers also tried the specification of the new machine and geometry chassis that was revised in this Spanish circuit. The "test went with very good we made several good progress during the last three days.." We carried out many changes to face the front season, we also worked very productive about the mapping of the machine. On the whole, the spirit of the team was very tall we had several newcomers in the garage and anyone co-operated with really baik. currently we look ahead for preparations test furthermore in Portugal., said Haslam.

As far as I am aware, the 'counter steering' is only to get the bike leant over and into the curve. if you kept pushing on the bar the bike would get more and more leaned over until it was horizontal.

That, plus counter steering (or any steering for that matter) is VERY small/subtle. I run a GoPro on my top triple on my race bike and all the way around the track including hairpins, you can barely see the camera move.

And don't forget counter steering initiates the turn, once the bike is leaned over the rear is controlling the bike.

Totally agree, movement is very subtle. Point is that on pics of turning bikes 99.9 will show front wheel con counter steering position as above. Front wheel turning in direction of the turn are hard to spot.

That picture doesn't really show a whole lot... unless you were looking at it from the front, I'm not sure what you can tell.
So I'm going to go with Answer B... shadow effect

Maybe it's just the angle but it looks like the front wheel is turned in the opposite direction of the turn. Granted not by much though.

I can see that as well. If he wasn't looking so far through the turn, I might say he was trying to pick the bike back up... but even then it wouldn't steer that much.
Still going with Answer B.... shadow effect

steering and counter steering was explained to me in bargy's school by comparing it to holding/balancing a broom up by the tip of the handle. You can balance it, then if you want it to move left, you move the bottom to the right to initiate the move left then follow it up quickly to the right. Picture could be him following up a deep dive into the corner but there is some shadow play as well on the wheel. The bars are turned a bit into the turn though. Or it's him starting to come out of the turn which would require follow up to stand the bike up. Without a better frame of reference, hard to tell...
