Greetings,

Keith here with some cool news on our 2013 schedule.

The exciting news is that those of you who come and ride our bikes will be riding the new 2013 BMW S1000RR's. If you've kept up with the liter bike shoot-outs, you know that the newest generation S1000RR is still winning them, it's pretty impressive to continue to win year after year.

This means we are selling off our fleet of 2011 bikes. If you would like to get one, please contact our head mechanic, Will Eikenberry, mechanic@superbikeschool.com. He can give you all the info and various options such as having it set up for street or track.

Looking forward to the 2013 season. We will be starting at the end of February for you cold climate dwellers, hope to see you next year.

I can't remember if it was 09 or 2010, but I was up at Honda of Hollywood and they had like 15 s1k's lined up with "sold" signs on them. They were going to Keith Code. That's actually what made me really start paying attention to the bike. At that time I just thought it was ugly. Of course, I simply had no idea what I was looking at.

I love Keith and I have graduated from his level 3 jedi training. But there is no way I would buy any of those bikes. Those bikes have been abused day in and day out, crashed, etc. And the bikes dont sell for cheap either.

i bet those bike are maintained perfectly and repaired by good mechanics.

and i know people seem to think bikes ridden on the track are abused but aren't they built to be ridden like that.

i think an abused sport bike would be one ridden off road or stunted or not maintained.

Have you attended the CSBS? I bet you havent. Those bikes are ridden hard all day back to back, crashed, repaired and sent out again. I wont buy one. But nothing against you or anyone who buys one. Go for it.

That's the problem, the prices for these things are only like 2 grand less than MSRP for a new one. At least they were when they did this last time.

I emailed California Superbike to inquire about the bikes they are selling a few weeks back and havent heard from them yet.

Has anyone heard back about pricing?

Good grief! All (or at least most) sportbikes are designed to be flogged and abused. Even more so with the BMW engineering in the S1000RR. I'm a volunteer corner worker for California Superbike School when they come to the east coast, and can most certainly say from what I see, their bikes are not abused. At least 60% of the time, the drill is 3rd and 4th gear, no brakes (or light brakes), which means the bikes rarely get over 100 MPH by most students. The afternoon sessions do allow for more aggressive riding with full gears/ full brakes, but from what I've seen, most of the students can be whooped by some guy on a 250cc bike! I'm dead serious! The bikes are kept in Rain Mode, unless a student complains they can't ride the bike because they are more "skilled" than what Rain Mode allows, only after a coach approves, they'll put it in Sport or Race mode. Slick plugs are not installed in the bikes so they never go to Slick mode.

Just two weeks ago I did a Nate Kern trackday at Roebling Road who just so happens to be a test rider/sponsored by BMW and he jokingly said any one who crashes the S1000RR in rain mode should not be riding at all! Ok, yes, most, if not all, of the CSS bikes have probably hit the ground due to some knuckle head doing something really stupid, but will assure you the head mechanic will not allow the bike to go back on track if it's not 100% correct for riding.

Personally, I bought three of the 2010 bikes from CSS when they sold them last year. I kept one for myself, sold one to a buddy and sold another one for a small profit to help me afford some goodies for the one I kept. I've put over 2000 track day miles on the one I kept. The bike had 17,000 miles on it and now it has 21,000+ miles on it (some street miles too). I haven't had a single issue with the bike what so ever (yeah, I just jinxed it and watch it blow up in a few months!).

Prices? I've got the 2011 spreadsheet from CSS with the mileage, colors, and price they want for them. It ranges from $12K for a bike with 2,500 miles, to $10K for a bike with 24,000 miles. Kind of hard to buy any other used S1000RR for less than these prices. Keep in mind about 14,000 miles of the 24,000 mile bike was ridden in 3rd/4th gear with no brakes and/or light brakes. I'd expect most other used S1000RR bike on the market by another seller has probably been more "abused" than the CSS bikes.

Just my $0.02 worth and very happy with my purchase for $5-$6K less than what a new one would have cost me!
