Default BMW S1000RR American pricing announced

BMW's new S1000RR superbike will retail at American dealerships at $13,800.

Expected to arrive in U.S. dealerships in December, the 2010 BMW S1000RR is priced to be competitive in the fierce literbike market segment. At $13,800, the American manufacturer suggested retail price is lower than the previously announced Canadian MSRP (US$14,800) and European MSRP (US$22,000).

BMW is also accepting pre-orders for the S1000RR through Dec. 31 at BMW Planet Power: The S1000RR Superbike.

"We have had tremendous interest in this bike since it was first unveiled in Monza earlier this year," says Todd Andersen, marketing manager for BMW Motorrad USA. "The S1000RR represents an entirely new dimension for BMW Motorrad and the sport bike segment. At this price, we expect a significant number of customers to take advantage of our pre-sale program. In fact, all of our first month’s production has already been sold through this program."

With a claimed power delivery of 193 hp and weight of 404 lbs, BMW calls the S1000RR the "most powerful production 1000cc sport bike in the world."

Optional features include a race antilock brake system with four settings, rain, sport, race and slick. BMW says its race ABS components weigh 5.5 lbs compared to the 20 lb ABS systems offered by its competitors.

S1000RR options are available at the following prices:
  • Motorsports Paint Scheme: $750
  • Race ABS: $1,000
  • Race ABS & Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) $1,480
  • Gear Shift Assistant: $450
  • Anti Theft Alarm: $395
